— Snoops to himself[1]
|
Snoops (聞き耳ーくん, Kikimimi-kun?), also known as Eavesdropper (盗聴役, Tōchō-yaku?)[3], was one of the assassins hired by Leonardo Hapoon to kill Olka Gretcher and her son, and is the main antagonist of the Cruise Adventure Arc.
He was the informant of the Assassin Leader and received his nickname due to his unique skill of listening to multiple listening devices at the same time and obtaining clues about his targets.
Appearance[]
Snoops is a tall and slim middle-aged man with messy black hair reaching his shoulders and a small goatee on his face. He has red eyes that have multiple rings within them. He is seen wearing a white dress shirt with a blue tie and later wears a black suit jacket when going outside.
Personality[]
Snoops is shown to be a sadistic man who lacks empathy for others, as he decides to wait to see the entire ship blow up while the passengers are still on it since he wants to see the victims slowly dying and is quick to betray his assassin allies for his own benefit. He is also calm and collected, and expressed confidence that his plan to bomb the ship would be a success until he was hit by one of his own bombs and left for dead in the ocean.
History[]
Snoops was known to provide information regarding Olka's location and identity to the other assassins and was hired by Leonardo Hapoon. He placed a multitude of listening devices all over Princess Lorelei and was capable of listening to every single conversation through these bugs in order to obtain information.
Synopsis[]
Cruise Adventure Arc[]
Snoops is in an unknown room from the ship listening to all conversations around the ship, until he captures one where he hears Olka, going under the alias "Shaty," talking about her son Gram, who shares the same name as her father. He then looks through the passengers' list to find the rooms of people named Shaty, he pinpoints it down to "Shaty Grey."[4]
After sharing this information with the other assassins, he loses contact with Knockman after he goes to Olka's room alone. He deduces that they have found their target and relays this to the Assassin Leader. He adds that Olka is being accompanied by a man and a woman and that the group has changed rooms. The Assassin Leader later asks Snoops if he will share any information he finds, reminding him that they paid a considerable amount for his services. Snoops replies that he sells information equally and wishes the Leader good luck in getting ahead of everyone.[5]
After Olka's group evades the assassins, the Assassin Leader radios to Snoops, asking if he picked up their trail. Snoops says he has not but surmises they might be hiding in a second or third-class cabin. He then overhears two bugged assassins speaking ill of him and plotting to take back the money they paid him. Hearing this, Snoops decides to make some contingencies.[6] The next evening, Snoops intercepts a coded transmission and predicts it might be from Olka's allies. Hearing this, the Leader makes an order to get their team into position for an ambush.[7]
Upon realizing the assassins' ambush failed, Snoops plants explosives around Princess Lorelei, planning to sink it. Anya overhears his thoughts, which leads her to Yor's location.[1] Snoops prepares to exit on a raft tied to the ship while he tunes in to the listening devices, and learns that all the other assassins have been wiped out. The Leader appears and confronts Snoops about the bombs, holding him at knifepoint. Snoops states his goal to not only finish off Olka and her guards but also start another war with Westalis, revealing that he made the bombs look like they were from the West. The exhausted Leader tells Snoops to get the raft moving, but they quickly turn on each other when Snoops says he only brought enough supplies for one person.
The Leader lunges his blade at Snoops, but Snoops catches his arm, restraining him while he points his gun at his head. Snoops says he will give the Leader a parting gift: the true fireworks show as Princess Lorelei explodes, and they can listen to the passengers' screams through the bugs he planted throughout the ship. Suddenly, one of his bombs gets thrown overboard by Loid and explodes over the assassins, knocking them off the raft. The men are last seen stranded in the ocean as sharks circle them.[8]
Abilities and Skills[]
Enhanced Hearing: Snoops received his nickname due to his unique and incredible skill of listening, as he was capable of listening to multiple listening devices at the same time and obtaining clues about his target in mere seconds.
Surveillance: He was seen to have a great sense of patience, as it is unknown how long he took to plant all the bugs in the whole ship, or how long he was listening to the conversations of the passengers inside.
Relationships[]
Assassin Leader[]
As both of them were hired by Leonardo Hapoon to assassinate Olka and Gram, they kept a professional relationship, as Snoops immediately reported anything unusual to the Leader, which was relayed to the other assassins. Despite this, Snoops held a great mistrust in the Leader and the assassins when he suspected they would betray him. When the Assassin Leader finds and confronts Snoops during his escape, he is surprised to see he has survived. Snoops tries to remove the Leader as he had planned his getaway for just one person. Although Snoops had the upper hand, they both failed in their attempt to flee after Loid throws a bomb over them, and the explosion leaves them stranded in the ocean as sharks circle the assassins.
