Snidel (スナイデル, Sunaideru?) is the main antagonist of SPY x FAMILY CODE: White. He is the colonel of Ostania's Military Intelligence Special Reconnaissance Regiment who wants to overturn the current peace between the East and West.
Appearance[]
Snidel is an elderly man with a stocky build. He has slicked-back medium-length brown hair with two blond streaks on the left side of his hair that extend to the back of his head. He also has a full beard, sharp eyebrows, and light blue eyes. Snidel wears the uniform of the Military Intelligence Special Reconnaissance Regiment. Over the shoulders of his uniform, he dons a dark green military trench coat with a red lining.
Snidel has a noble aura and exudes a chilling presence. He is also a gourmand and carries around cooking-themed items. This can be seen by the napkin around his neck, seasonings on his belt, and the stirrer-shaped cane he walks with.
Personality[]
Snidel is a cruel and vicious man who will do anything to accomplish his goal, going as far as attempting to kill a child like Anya in order to secure the microfilm that she ate. While he has the respect of his subordinates through his strong leadership, he does not mind threatening or killing them if they get in the way of his goal. He also uses his military authority to have his way with the locals of Frigis, like when he threatened to shut down the restaurant Rubble and Bonds so he could dine there, despite its family-only policy.
He is also quite confident, fully believing that his war plan would succeed. When the regiment's situation worsened after the Forgers infiltrated their flying battleship, Snidel managed to remain calm and insisted that their war would happen, then carefully coordinated his soldiers to resolve the problems. However, even Snidel was not outside of losing his cool, as he was shocked to learn that Anya had eaten their important microfilm and after seeing Yor running on the hull of the ship, and was angered when Loid disguised as him during their battle.
Snidel is a gourmand and enjoys eating delicacies whenever he can, like when he went to Rubble and Bonds to get the Meremere. He also has an incredible sense of smell and takes great pride in it during his interactions with Loid, flaunting his victory over him after their ingredient competition at Rubble and Bonds and when he quickly saw through Loid's disguise.
Synopsis[]
SPY x FAMILY CODE: White[]
With plans to start a war against Westalis, Snidel leads his regiment to prepare their flying battleship in Frigis. A key factor to his plan is a microfilm that their agents have stolen from the West, which is hidden inside a truffle. The microfilm was planned to be delivered to their base in Frigis by Snidel's subordinates, Domitri and Luca. Before preparations for the battleship are complete, Snidel heads into the city with his men to dine at the local restaurant, Rubble and Bonds. The chef and staff attempt to refuse their services while stating their family-only policy, but Snidel threatens to shut down the restaurant if they refuse to serve him. He begins making his order and chooses the Meremere as his last pick. However, after being informed that the dessert just went out of stock, Snidel looks around the restaurant and spots Anya's untouched last slice of Meremere. The colonel has one of his soldiers take the dish from the Forgers' table, prompting Loid to politely approach him to ask for it back.
Snidel recognizes Loid as not only a tourist but a fellow food connoisseur, and the colonel challenges him to a competition with the Meremere as the reward. In this competition, the two must specifically identify the types of sugar in three cakes, and if Loid gets the same answer, he will get the Meremere back. While Loid correctly identifies the sugar types, Snidel stuns everyone as he also got the same answer but specified the exact number of grams used, therefore having the more accurate answer. After Snidel happily enjoys his ordered food and the Meremere, he and his men leave the restaurant, but not before taunting Loid.
Later in the evening, Snidel arrives at the hangar storing the flying battleship, where his men wait for their departure. With all their preparations complete, Snidel advances with his plan to depart to the Republic of Albo with the microfilm, but not before suddenly shooting his Operations Manager dead. He reveals to his surprised subordinates that the man was a traitor who was leaking their information to Westalis's intelligence agency, WISE. As the soldiers board the ship, Domitri and Luca inform Snidel that the microfilm is gone as it was eaten by Anya, much to his shock.
Snidel orders his soldiers to search Frigis for Anya, refusing to depart until the microfilm is back in their possession. Domitri and Luca capture Anya and take her to Snidel on the airship. Snidel and Anya recognize each other from Rubble and Bonds, and Snidel asks if she has gone to the bathroom yet. Snidel thinks about having to wait for Anya to poop so they can retrieve the microfilm from her, after which he plans to have her killed. Anya, who reads his mind with her telepathy, denies needing to go to the bathroom but quickly admits she lied after Snidel glares at her. Snidel puts Anya under Domitri and Luca's custody and orders them to inform him when she poops. With the microfilm now with them, the airship lifts off into the sky. Much to Snidel's annoyance, however, Anya has been resisting her pooping urges, so he orders Domitri and Luca to cut open her stomach and go from there.
Suddenly, an old military aircraft flown by Loid flies close to the airship and anonymously requests an emergency landing. Ignoring Loid's request, Snidel orders to have it shot down. To the regiment's surprise, the plane skillfully evades their gunfire. Snidel grows frustrated with the plane's persistence and orders the use of homing missiles, reasoning to his subordinates that there will be a war anyway. The plane evades all the missiles but gets damaged by crossfire. Loid then flies onto the hull and crashes into the ship, causing it to shake. Shortly afterward, the soldiers spot Yor running on the ship's exterior, much to Snidel's disbelief. Assuming Yor is one of their enemies from the crashed plane, Snidel orders his soldiers to have her killed. During Yor's fight on the hull, a soldier's grenade falls into the airship and explodes, starting a fire while Yor enters through an opened turret. As the fire sets the fuel system and engine room ablaze, Snidel orders them to be put out. As for their new intruder, he dispatches Type F, their mysterious mechanical soldier, to deal with her.
Anya, who escaped amidst the chaos, is recaptured by Domitri and Luca and once again brought to Snidel at the command bridge. After finding out that Anya ended up going to the bathroom, he believes that the microfilm may still be in her digestive tract and declares to cut her open himself. He then orders the duo to search through the ship's sewage tank to find the microfilm in the chance that it may be there, threatening to use his knife on them for practice. Snidel has Anya tied up in the room below the bridge, deciding to deal with her after the problems in the battleship are dealt with.
When Loid, disguised as an officer, enters the command bridge in search of Anya, Snidel quickly exposes him as an imposter and the tourist he met at the restaurant, recognizing Loid's "city scent" once he walked inside the room. Snidel and his men engage in a shootout with Loid, who removes his mask after it gets damaged. Snidel decides to use a poison gas grenade that he has been developing called "Type G" to kill Loid. After donning gas masks alongside his men, Snidel tosses the grenade at Loid. However, Anya hears his plan with her telepathy and manages to free herself from her restraints, accidentally faceplanting into a console in front of her and hitting buttons that open the windows on the bridge, releasing the gas as it detonates.
During the confusion, Loid disguises himself as Snidel and grapples with him, causing the men to cease fire as they are unable to shoot their colonel. Angered by Loid's trick, Snidel pulls out his knife and attacks him, intending to damage his mask and expose him as the imposter. However, Snidel underestimates his opponent, who outmaneuvers and overpowers him, then puts him into a chokehold until he loses consciousness. After Snidel's defeat, Loid orders his soldiers in the bridge to abandon the ship and continue their plan on land, then makes them take the real Snidel with them. The colonel's fate is left unknown after the Forgers crash the battleship into the lake.
Abilities and Skills[]
Hand-to-Hand Combatant: Snidel appears to be a skilled combatant, going toe-to-toe against Loid in close-quarters combat. While he puts up a decent fight against the spy, he ultimately loses.
Weapons: At least at the level of standard military training, Snidel is able to use firearms and edged and explosive weapons to get rid of people whom he considers undesirable for himself. He and his men even developed a unique toxic gas called "Type G."
Enhanced Senses: Snidel has a phenomenal sense of smell. It is incredibly enhanced to such an extent that it allows Snidel to recognize scents even in places where they easily mix and track exactly the things that he needs, such as in Rubble and Bonds, when one deep breath allowed him to accurately determine the availability of dishes of interest to him in the restaurant despite the presence of many other foods. Snidel's sense of smell also allows him to recognize familiar scents, like when he easily exposed Loid's disguise by recognizing his "city scent" on him the moment the latter walked into the room. He also has enhanced taste, which allows him to identify the ingredients used in a meal, even down to the last gram.
Trivia[]
- Snidel, as well as the other members of the Military Intelligence Special Reconnaissance Regiment, were designed by Tatsuya Endo.
- Snidel had several hairstyle designs concepts, starting from a pointy pompadour, which gradually lowered and slicked back into his current hairstyle.[1]
- Snidel is currently the only antagonist in the series to have seen Twilight's face while he is in action. Despite this and being aware of WISE, he does not figure out that Loid is Twilight during their fight, not appearing to have any prior knowledge of the spy.
