The National Unity Party (国家統一党(こっかとういつとう), Kokkatōitsutō?) is a major political party in Ostania. They are influential enough to threaten the peace between the East and West.

Overview[]

The National Unity Party is described as a far-right political party in Ostania. They formerly ruled Ostania with a hard-line, anti-Westalis notion up until the end of the war, when they fell out of power and became the opposition party over the next ten years.[1] In the present, WISE suspects that the party's chairman, Donovan Desmond, is planning another war against Westalis, so they put Operation Strix into motion to determine a way to prevent any future war.

During the party's rule, they led a research project known as Project Apple, which involved the creation of highly intelligent animals for military purposes by conducting experiments on them.[2] However, the project did not produce any successful results, and it was quickly shut down after the new administration took over Ostania.

After almost a decade since the war's end, the party still appears to hold its anti-West sentiments. Just before Ostanian opera singer Jonas Wellman's visit to Westalis for a cultural exchange event, which people hope will improve the relationship between the two countries, compromising scandals surrounding him are spread around Ostania, causing him to lose favor with the public. As WISE works to covertly resolve the situation, handler Sylvia Sherwood tells a naive rookie that the tabloids spreading these scandals like the Weekly Unify served as mouthpieces for the National Unity Party during the war. Later, the scandals are rebutted by another paper, who has evidence that the scandals are part of a smear campaign, even having photos of one of Jonas's alleged mistresses meeting with an official from the party, implying that it was their handiwork.[3]

Trivia[]

  • A possible real-world inspiration of the National Unity Party may be the Socialist Unity Party, the sole ruling party of East Germany until 1989, although in many countries, there are parties with the exact same name.
  • The party is suspected to be responsible for the assassination of the Westalian diplomat in Chapter 1.
