The National Unity Party (
Overview[]
The National Unity Party is described as a far-right-wing political party in Ostania. They formerly ruled the nation with a strong anti-Westalis notion up until the end of the second East-West war, when they fell out of power and became the opposition party for over a decade.[1] In the present, WISE suspects that the party's current chairman, Donovan Desmond, is planning another war against Westalis, so they put Operation Strix into motion to investigate him and prevent this potential war.
History[]

Donovan Desmond, the party's current chairman
The National Unity Party ruled Ostania during the second East-West war. When the war began, Chapman was the party's chairman and the Prime Minister at the time. Some time during the war, he was succeeded by Donovan Desmond.[2] While in power, the party openly shared their anti-West values with the public and used tabloids like the Weekly Unify as mouthpieces for their political views. However, toward the end of the war, the National Unity Party fell out of power and was replaced by a less hawkish administration that seemingly seeks to reconcile with Westalis in the present.
Despite losing power and Donovan becoming a recluse shortly after, the National Unity Party remains active, holding seminars and other political activities while Donovan continues his work as their chairman. On the other hand, his wife Melinda, who was active in the party at the time, stopped involving herself in politics after they lost power. She currently serves as the chairwoman of the Lady Patriots Society.
Project Apple[]

Project Apple's experiments on dogs
During their rule, the National Unity Party led a research project known as Project Apple, which involved the creation of highly intelligent animals for military purposes by conducting experiments on them.[3] However, the project did not produce any successful results, and it was quickly shut down by the new administration after the National Unity Party fell out of power.[4] Despite the project being shut down, WISE has learned of rumors that some of its research teams may still be active in the present. It is currently unknown if these teams are somehow connected to Donovan through the National Unity Party.
Present Day[]

A car accident killed a diplomat in Ostania
Over a decade after the second war's end, the National Unity Party still holds its anti-West sentiments. When a Westalian diplomat is killed in a car accident while in Ostania, WISE suspects it was an assassination carried out by the party, whom they also believe is planning another war against Westalis, spurring them to create Operation Strix and assign it to their best agent, Twilight.[5]
After Operation Strix's initiation, Twilight meets with Donovan during the Imperial Scholars mixer at Eden Academy, where he internally reveals that Donovan, and by extension the National Unity Party, seeks to control other nations with threats of military force.[6]
Sometime after the mixer, Ostanian opera singer Jonas Wellman plans to visit Westalis for a cultural exchange event, which people hope will improve the relationship between the two countries. However, shortly before his departure, compromising scandals surrounding Jonas are published by the Weekly Unify and other Ostanian tabloids, which cause the singer to lose favor with the public. As the WISE agents in Ostania work to resolve the situation covertly, handler Sylvia Sherwood dismisses the authenticity of the tabloids and explains their history with the National Unity Party to a naive rookie. Days later, the scandals are rebutted by another paper, which has evidence that the scandals are part of a smear campaign against Jonas, including photos of one of his alleged mistresses meeting with an official from the party, implying that it was their handiwork.[7]
According to Loid, there are many members in the party within the SSS and Ostania's Justice Department.[8]
Known Members[]
Trivia[]
- A possible real-world inspiration for the National Unity Party may be the Socialist Unity Party, the sole ruling party of East Germany until 1989, although in many countries, there are parties with the exact same name.
