Musical SPY x FAMILY (ミュージカル スパイファミリー, Myūjikaru Supai Famirī?) is a musical adaptation of Tatsuya Endo's SPY x FAMILY manga series. It was announced on May 1, 2022 under Toho Stage's production.[1] The musical premiered at Tokyo's Imperial Theatre from March 8 to March 29, 2023, then went on a nationwide tour in the Hyogo Performing Arts Center - Kobelco Grand Hall in Nishinomiya in April 2023 and the Hakata-za Theater in Fukuoka in May 2023.[2]

A spy father × A psychic daughter × An assassin mother, world peace is entrusted to these three!?
This is the story of three people who grew up without knowing what a "normal family" is, and their slightly unusual "temporary family."
It was the era of the Cold War, when the nations of the world were engaged in a fierce information war behind the scenes. In the neighboring eastern country of Ostania and the western country of Westalis, a temporary peace was maintained for more than ten years. "Twilight" is a highly skilled spy belonging to the Westalian Intelligence Services' Eastern-Focused Division (WISE), and has used his advanced intelligence skills to avert crises between the East and the West on numerous occasions. One day, Twilight was ordered on a top-secret mission to investigate the movements of Donovan Desmond, the president of the National Unity Party in the East, a dangerous figure who threatens the peace between East and West. The name of the operation is "Operation Strix." The mission was to "establish a family within a week, infiltrate a social gathering at a prestigious school that Desmond's son attends, and make contact with Desmond." Twilight poses as Loid Forger, a psychiatrist who is searching for a daughter and wife to start a family. He meets Anya, a candidate to become his "daughter," who is a psychic who can read minds, and Yor, a candidate to become his "wife," who is secretly an assassin. However, their interests coincide and they end up living together while hiding their true identities from each other. As expected, the daily life of the three "temporary family members" with unusual backgrounds is full of strange happenings. Sometimes they get caught up in major incidents and face their own enemies and challenges, but at any rate, world peace is entrusted to them as they do their best to pose as an "ordinary family"...[3]

I couldn't stop reading the manga because of the realistic action scenes and many scenes that made me chuckle and feel relieved. Yor's overwhelming aura and the pure side of her strength left a strong impression on me. I am very honored to be able to play the role of Yor. The costumes and hair were recreated to a very high level of detail, and I was able to naturally get into the world of the character during the photo shoot. I will do my best to express Yor's kind heart, physical strength, and charm in the musical, paying respect to the work. |
Mirei Sasaki (佐々木美玲) as Yor Forger Comment
I originally enjoyed the original story and the anime, so I never thought I would be able to play the role of Yor. I think that Yor has two sides to her, the natural part that makes her look fluffy in her everyday life and the core strength that makes her fight to protect others! When we took pictures of her in costume, the costumes were faithfully reproduced, I kept looking in the mirror and thinking, "Wow! It's just like Yor!" I hope I will be able to play a role in SPY x FAMILY, which is loved by people of all ages, with love and care. |

Development and Pre-production[]
The musical was first announced on May 1, 2022, under Toho Stage's production, and a large-scale audition for the role of Anya was also announced. On September 29, 2022, the cast visuals for Loid and Yor were revealed, and the cast for Yuri, Fiona, Franky, Henry, and Sylvia was announced. In addition, the main staff working on the production and its performance schedule were also announced.[4] On October 8, 2022, the cast visuals for Yuri, Fiona, Franky, Henry, and Sylvia were revealed.
On December 8, 2022, a press conference was held in Tokyo to announce the production of the musical, with the director and most of the main cast in attendance.[5] On the same day, the official trailer for the musical was revealed.[6] On December 14, 2022, the quattro cast for the role of Anya was revealed, along with visuals for each of the young actresses.[7] On January 11, 2023, a mini press conference was held in Tokyo for the role of Anya in the musical, with all the actors playing Loid and Anya in attendance.[8] On the same day, visuals of the four actresses in their Anya costume and inspired by the manga's second volume was revealed.
Digital Release[]
On April 16, 2023, Toho Animation announced the Blu-ray and DVD release of the Tokyo Imperial Theater March performance for December 13, 2023.[9] There are two versions, a S version and a F version, featuring different casts. There is also a special limited edition release containing a bonus Anya disc, which includes a singing video of Miharu Izawa and Risa Masuda, a self-promotional video of the Anya cast, and the Hakataza Theater curtain call.
