Summary[]
Spy and Dog[]
Loid and Bond escape from the burning building
With Franky's help, Loid begins doing guard dog training with Bond. However, Bond becomes forlorn when Loid wants to do more training. Franky suggests that they might be reminding Bond of his bad memories at Project Apple and recommends making things fun for him, so Loid takes Bond on a walk. Bond has visions of misfortunes happening to random civilians and tries to prevent them, but he only makes himself look bad to Loid, who is confused by his actions. Suddenly, Bond foresees an apartment in flames as a woman cries out for her "Daisy." He tracks the scent and gets Loid to follow his directions. Arriving at the burning apartment, Bond gnaws off his leash and runs inside to save Daisy, a pug. Joined by Loid, they try to leave the apartment, but their way out gets blocked by flaming piles of rubble. They escape the building by leaping out of the second-floor window, though Bond slightly catches on fire. After getting doused with water, Bond's skinny form is revealed, which surprises and amuses Loid.
Loid and Bond share a tender moment
Bond catches the scent of the apartment's arsonist and attacks him, after which Loid incapacitates him. Loid and Bond watch the fruit of their efforts as the dog they saved reunites with her owner, then slip away to avoid the attention. Loid praises Bond for his actions but reminds him to be careful, as the family will worry about him if something happens to him. He apologizes for trying to train Bond so hard and recognizes him as a part of the Forger family.[2] When they return home, Loid lies about how Bond got wet, but Anya learns what they really did and proudly awards them with paper Stellas, dubbing it their "Worked Super Hard on Your Walk" award.[3]
Playdate with Becky[]
Becky's dream to become Loid's wife
After watching a seduction scene on Berlint in Love, Becky gets inspired to do it with Loid and hurries over to the Forger home to enact it. Anya learns about Becky's plan to marry Loid and decides to assist her after contemplating its benefits. Chatting with Becky, Loid tries to learn more about her father's activities, which makes her think he might be interested in her. When Yor arrives, Becky begins using seduction techniques she learned from her show on Loid, including pretending to get drunk. However, Yor believes that she somehow got Becky drunk and hurries her to a hospital. Becky stops Yor and reveals her true intentions with Loid, though Yor is surprisingly unbothered by it. After believing Loid likes strong women, Becky attempts to play a strongman game, which Yor destroys when she tries. Hoping to one day be as strong as Yor, Becky becomes her student.[4]
NIGHTFALL'S DAILY LIFE[]
Fiona jumps for joy after getting a gift from Loid
In her efforts to prove herself to be capable as Twilight's wife, Fiona undertakes extra missions in Loid's stead while he has his vacation on Princess Lorelei. Afterward, she trains herself in the mountains to prepare for her and Yor's tennis rematch. When Loid returns, he learns about Fiona taking over for him from Sylvia. At the hospital, he gives her leftover souvenirs from his trip as thanks. Though she does not show it, Fiona is greatly elated by the gift.[5]
BERLINT PANIC[]
While on a holiday, the Forgers go to the city's park and enjoy its attractions. However, Bond has an ominous vision of an excavator wreaking havoc through the area and injuring many civilians. After witnessing this, Anya's telepathy overhears the bitter thoughts of an overworked construction worker, who is forced to clear debris at a nearby site alone. Sensing this man could be the culprit from Bond's vision, Anya pretends she wants to go home and study to earn more Stellas so she can investigate.
Loid and Yor protect Anya and Bond from debris
As the family leaves the park, they spot the man working at the construction site. Just as Loid notices the potential danger, the worker snaps and begins thrashing wildly with his excavator. Debris flies toward Anya and Bond, but Loid and Yor leap in to shield them. Loid rushes into the site and uses another excavator to stop the worker, resulting in a showdown. Meanwhile, Yor saves an elderly passerby and his dog from falling debris. The two excavators lock in a stalemate until Loid skillfully twists his machine, overpowering the other and knocking the man unconscious. Anya and Bond quietly celebrate their victory, but it is short-lived after Loid makes Anya study once they return home, going all out with her studies. Yor enthusiastically promises to also go all out by cooking a big feast, scaring Anya and Bond.[6]
Fiona and Franky[]
Nightfall and Franky as a disguised couple in the club
Fiona is tasked with obtaining a fake export license after an Ostanian executive unlawfully restricts strawberry exports to Westalis, which could cause a diplomatic crisis after it personally slights Foreign Minister Brantz. Fiona asks Loid for help, and he directs her to Franky, who has many connections. Franky annoys Fiona with his flirting, but he assists her by contacting a counterfeiter, the Quill. Upon arriving at the meeting place, a couples-only club, Fiona and Franky pose as one, much to the former's chagrin. When they meet with the Quill, he rejects Fiona's commission and leaves. Outside, they get attacked by SSS agents chasing after the Quill. After Fiona fights them off, Franky helps them escape and reveals his motivation as an informant. Later, Fiona obtains her fake export license from Franky, who figures that she called the SSS on them that night. Regardless, Fiona plans on continuing to use Franky's services.[7]
Old Lady Tonitrus[]
Anya receives her second Tonitrus
Eden Academy's disciplinarian Donna Schlag, feared as "Old Lady Tonitrus," returns from a hospitalization and begins striking down students with Tonitrus Bolts in full force. She visits Cecile Hall's first-years and begins a bag inspection, where she punishes students for minor infractions, even for forgetting a handkerchief. Damian, who forgot his, worries about getting a Tonitrus and believes he can never face his father again if he does. For the sake of Operation Strix, Anya saves Damian by giving him her handkerchief, believing she brought an extra. However, Anya quickly learns she was wrong and receives her second Tonitrus. Feeling indebted to Anya, Damian swears to repay her. When Anya returns home, Loid is happy to learn about the potential development of a friendship with Damian, but he faints upon seeing her new Tonitrus.[8]
Twilight's Origin[]
The young Loid watches his hometown in ruins
In his sleep, Loid recalls his past, which began in the eastern region of Luwen in Westalis. As a young boy, Loid played pretend battles with his friends, and they aspire to become soldiers together. His father was strongly against this, insisting there would be no war, a sentiment shared by other adults in the town. At home, Loid's upbringing was a point of contention between his parents, with his mother opposing his father's strict discipline. Before departing for urgent business at the border, Loid's father gives him a small allowance, which Loid receives by lying. He uses the money to buy a toy soldier set to play with his friends, but quickly becomes guilty and resolves to confess to his father when he returns. However, Luwen is bombed and raided by the Ostanian army, an event that sparks a new war.[9]
Loid and Franky's first meeting
After narrowly surviving the bombings, Loid and his mother leave for Kielberg to stay with relatives, but they never hear from his father. When Kielberg later comes under air raids, Loid's mother is killed, leaving him alone with nothing left except hatred for Ostania. The boy grows up to eventually participate in the war by joining the Westalian army under a false name and age, taking part in many battles. While deployed on a mountain, Loid encounters Franky, who has deserted the Ostanian army. Finding him amusing, Loid spares his life. The two briefly talk, but their conversation turns tense when the subject shifts to how the war began. When the Ostanian troops pursuing Franky appear, they go their separate ways, leaving Loid increasingly conflicted about his beliefs.
Loid thinks about his purpose to enlist as a spy
While recovering off the front lines, Loid has a heartfelt reunion with his childhood friends, who also survived the bombings and recently joined the army. However, the reunion is short-lived, as Loid's friends are soon deployed on a failed operation that results in their deaths. Having completely lost everything from his youth, Loid admonishes himself for his blind ignorance and lack of understanding about the war he has been fighting. Soon after, he is approached by a man from Westalis's military intelligence who has uncovered his false identity. Seeing Loid's talent for espionage, the man offers him a choice: join their agency or face a court-martial. Motivated to create a world without war and where kids don't need to cry, Loid accepts, thus beginning his path as Twilight.
In the present, Loid jolts awake after remembering his harsh training under Sylvia. While initially upset at remembering how he fainted to Anya's Tonitrus, Loid instead focuses on her progress. Seeing that Anya has grown closer to Damian, he reminds her to cherish her friends.[1]
Fighting for Peace[]
Sylvia stops Pance Karmer from killing Jonas Wellman
While Loid recovers from collapsing, Sylvia and the WISE agents under her command deal with a series of scandals involving Jonas Wellman, a famous Ostanian opera singer who is about to depart for an important cultural exchange event in Westalis. After the scandals are rebutted and revealed to be the work of the National Unity Party, the agents turn their attention to a death threat sent to Wellman. While watching live news coverage outside Wellman's office, Sylvia spots a suspicious security guard nearby. She orders an informant in the area to keep the guard away from Wellman while she and other agents hurry over to intercept him. Sylvia then defeats the suspect herself, after which he is captured.
Sylvia tells the rookie to find the answers himself
After Wellman safely departs for Westalis, the agents discuss the guard, Pance Karmer, who was also responsible for the death threat. A former soldier turned vigilante after his experiences in the war, Pance serves as a grim reminder to the agents of having too much pride in having fought for peace. Reflecting on this mission, a naive rookie declares to never be ignorant again, only to be shocked when he learns that some of Wellman's scandals were actually true. When he begins demanding answers, Sylvia simply tells him to find them himself.[10]
