The Introduction Arc is the first story arc in SPY x FAMILY.

Westalian agent Twilight is tasked with accomplishing Operation Strix by enrolling a child into Eden Academy to approach Donovan Desmond. As Loid Forger, he begins by putting together the Forger Family.

Operation Strix Begins[]

After the death of one of their diplomats in a car accident in Ostania, the heads of Westalis meet to discuss the situation. They believe it was not an accident but an assassination by the East's far-right political party. Suspecting that they are planning a war against Westalis and needing to learn of their plan, one of them suggests they send their best agent, "Twilight." He is an agent who works for WISE, Westalis's intelligence agency, and is tasked with investigating the reclusive Donovan Desmond, the leader of the political party. To do this, Twilight must get married and have a kid, who he must enroll in Eden Academy, a prestigious private school that Donovan's son attends. Twilight takes on the identity of a psychiatrist, "Loid Forger," and adopts a young girl named Anya to enroll her in the school. Unbeknownst to him, Anya is actually a telepath who can read minds.

Heading home, Loid instructs Anya to say she was always his daughter and to call him father. After settling in their apartment, Loid begins heading out to get some stuff and forge an ID for Anya, but Anya insists on going with him. During their shopping trip, Loid fails to understand Anya's strange behavior as she responds to his thoughts. The next day, Loid goes out alone to meet with his informant, Franky Franklin, leaving Anya at home with a barricade to prevent her from following him. Bored, Anya plays with Loid's spy equipment and accidentally reveals their location to Edgar, one of Twilight's enemies. Upon returning home, Loid notices the front door barricade tempered with. Entering inside, he gets ambushed but manages to beat all the men. Unable to find Anya, he concludes she is kidnapped and that he is now compromised. While thinking of running away and restarting the mission, a man attacks Loid from behind.

Loid disguises himself as Nguyen and rescues Anya at Edgar's hideout. Outside, Loid gives Anya a note and directs her to the police, hoping to give her a better home. Loid chastises himself for putting a little girl in danger and regrets forgetting that he became a spy in order to create a world where children won't have to cry. Anya, who read his mind, decides to stay and wait for him. Loid returns to the hideout and defeats all of Edgar's goons, then forces him to withdraw by threatening the man's daughter. Walking out of the building, Loid is surprised to see Anya waiting for him so they can go home together. Recalling she was returned each time after adoption, Loid takes her in.

On the day of the exam, Anya tries to read the minds of the other kids, but they all are panicking as neither of them knows the answers. However, she then remembers what she studied with Loid and writes it down. After the exam, Loid and Anya look at the board with the passed students. Loid is elated to see that Anya is there, and all his exhaustion hits him, making him fall to the ground. Later at home, Loid and Anya learn that the second phase of the admission process is a family interview, and both parents must be present, meaning that Loid must find a wife.^[2]

Finding a Wife[]

Loid fails to make Franky look like a convincing wife and decides to find a woman for the role of the Forger wife. Due to many female operatives getting captured in spy hunts, Loid hopes to find a woman willing to cooperate in spite of his current circumstances.

Thorn Princess Introduction — The Thorn Princess greets her customer

At Berlint City Hall, a 27-year-old clerk Yor Briar is ostracized by her co-workers for her aloof nature and being single at her age. With the growing presence of spies, people have started reporting anyone they believe is suspicious, worrying Yor. Yor's co-worker Camilla states she is having a party this weekend and invites her to come with a partner. That night, Yor receives a call from her brother Yuri, who is worried about Yor not having a partner. Wanting to put his mind at ease, she tells Yuri she has a boyfriend, but he decides to have his friend confirm this claim at the party. Shortly after, the Shopkeeper calls, stating he has a client for Yor, who is revealed to be the "Thorn Princess," a deadly assassin.

The next day, Loid goes to a tailor to get Anya measured and encounters Yor, and the two agree to help each other to fulfill their respective goals. However, Loid receives an extra mission on the same day as Yor's party, and he brings Franky along to help him get it done quicker. The mission causes Loid to arrive late to the party and accidentally introduce himself as Yor's husband. When a jealous Camilla attempts to smear Yor, Loid defends Yor and praises her dedication to her work, which touches her. After they leave the party, the pair are pursued by some of the remaining enemies from Loid's earlier mission. They stop at an abandoned factory, where Loid and Yor fend off the men together. Yor realizes she and her cover can benefit from their partnership and suggests to Loid that they should get married. Loid agrees and uses a grenade ring as a ring while he pledges his vows to Yor.^[3]
