Overview
You know, I envy the Thorn Princess a lot too. But given how I am, I'm not sure that I'd ever have a lover. You knew that I had grown worried about that. And that's the reason you attacked the Thorn Princess, wasn't it? So think of this as an apology. And a step forward toward reconciliation.
— Gympie to Hemlock[1]

Gympie (ギンピー, Ginpī?) is a member of Garden from Ostania. She is introduced during the events of the Current Arc.

Appearance[]

Gympie is a small, short-statured woman or girl with very messy, leaf-like hair. She has wide, prominent eyes, which appear to be emphasized by thick black markings resembling heavily painted eyelashes. Her outfit consists of a large, loose-fitting long vest paired with raincoat-like trousers and black gloves and boots, giving her a slightly rugged and practical look.

Personality[]

Gympie seems to have a calm and gentle demeanor, seemingly to be hard to make her mad. She gives the impression of someone who prefers to avoid conflict, acting respectfully toward her comrades. Despite arriving earlier than others, she politely steps forward to greet Yor without arrogance or urgency. Gympie appears thoughtful and considerate, intervening peacefully when tensions rise between Hemlock and Yor, though she will not hesitate to stand up for her beliefs and values, confronting those who betray her trust.

Synopsis[]

Current Arc[]

Yor greets Gympie

Gympie and Yor exchange greetings

Gympie first appears when Matthew McMahon questions Hemlock about reporting in for his pruning task. Although Gympie had arrived at Garden before Yor and Hemlock, she makes her presence known later by making her appearance notable and greeting Yor. During the discussion about their new assignment to protect the Miteran elk from poachers, Shopkeeper assigns Yor and Matthew to the new mission and asks them to bring another Garden member for support. Gympie suggests Thistle, whom she says should available, but Hemlock quickly offers himself to go with them. When Yor simply mentions that she wishes not to encounter any bugs, Hemlock threatens her, making Gympie intervene to de-escalate the situation.[2]

Gympie gets angry at Hemlock

When Hemlock arrives at the Garden, Shopkeeper calls for Gympie, who approaches Hemlock with a salve she prepared specifically for Yor's injuries. Hemlock initially refuses to give it to her, prompting Gympie to glare at him. She confronts him, admitting that both of them envy Yor not just for her strength, but because she is able to have a partner and still live as an assassin. Unlike Yor, Gympie does not believe she will ever be capable of finding a lover. Hemlock denies being jealous, but Gympie claims that one of the reasons of he attacked Yor was because he knew how much Gympie was worried. She tells him to give Yor the medicine not just for her recovery, but as an apology. Hemlock grabs the bag angrily, once again rejecting everything Gympie said as he storms off.[3]

Abilities and Skills[]

While Gympie's combat skills have not yet to be seen, her membership in Garden suggests she is a highly capable operative. Like other members, she is likely skilled in assassination techniques, stealth, and combat, having earned her place in Garden.

Poison Proficiency: According to her fellow assassins, Gympie specializes in poisons. She is skilled enough to create her own toxins and medicines, which are potent enough to affect someone like Yor who is known for her exceptional resistance to both drugs and poisons, though in this case, she made a salve to relieve Yor's pain.

Weaknesses[]

While Gympie is skilled with poisons, she is stated by Matthew to lack the necessary "firepower" to take on opponents like a group of poachers.

Relationships[]

Hemlock[]

Gympie and Hemlock appear to share a professional relationship as fellow assassins, with a level of mutual trust as Gympie confides in Hemlock about her jealousy toward Yor, admitting that she feels unable to have a partner because of her body. Hemlock seems to take her words seriously, since during his confrontation with Yor, he mentions that even Gympie has begun opening up to him about such matters. This leads Gympie to realize that her comments may have contributed to Hemlock's anger toward Yor.

After Hemlock returns from his mission involving the poachers, Gympie becomes upset with him for refusing to give her salve made for Yor. Over time, she comes to understand that he is also jealous, not just of Yor's skills as an assassin, but of her ability to live a normal life. Hemlock, however, denies it.[3]

Yor Forger[]

Gympie seems to have a good relationship with Yor. She shows respect towards her, greeting her warmly upon arrival. Yor, in turn, reacts with a bit of excitement when seeing her, implying they share a friendly camaraderie. When Hemlock threatens Yor, Gympie immediately steps in saying they should not fight. According to Hemlock, she has recently been talking about getting a boyfriend due to being influenced by Yor's cover life.[1] Gympie later admits that she is jealous of Yor not just for her strength, but because she is able to have a partner and still live as an assassin, which she believes she cannot have because of her physical condition.[3]
