Overview |
“ | Isn't it strange? My face looks completely different, but he still recognizes me as his mother. Is it my voice? My smell? I supposed his vision isn't fully developed. I'm a little sad that no one will ever tell me how much we look alike… Besides, he looks more like his father than me. | ” |
Gram Gretcher (グラマ・グレッチャー, Guram Gurecchā?) is the only son of Olka Gretcher and one of the two remaining members of the Gretcher family. Yor Forger was tasked to protect Gram and Olka while aboard the Princess Lorelei.
Appearance[]
Gram is a baby with short but well-groomed brown hair. He shares his mother's face, as they appear to have the same eyes, and after Olka had to change her appearance, they look more similar to each other. According to Olka, Gram resembles his late father.
Personality[]
While Gram is still a baby, he is very expressive. Like any other child, he is easily startled and is quick to cry. At times he shares his mother's feelings, such as when she was disappointed in how cowardly Zeb was acting or when the two thanked Yor for all of her help. Despite their situation, Gram found excitement when Yor jumped a big height while carrying him and his mother or saving them from an attacker.
History[]
The Gretcher family used to manage Ostania's underworld in an honorable fashion. After the second war between Ostania and Westalis, the family ran a black market that distributed food to people on the streets. After years of serving, Olka married and had a son, who she named Gram, after her father. However, Gram's father and the rest of the Gretcher family were killed in an internal dispute, and the man who took over the family organization, Leonardo Hapoon, put a bounty on Gram and Olka's heads. The two went into hiding with the help of Zeb, a subordinate of the old boss, and stayed at a safe house. As a favor to their family, the Shopkeeper assigned Yor to protect them aboard Princess Lorelei while they escape to a foreign country by sea.
Synopsis[]
Cruise Adventure Arc[]
Aboard Princess Lorelei, Zeb presents himself as Furseal Grey, Gram as his kid and Olka as his wife to Yor Forger and Matthew McMahon. Yor accompanies them to their room as Olka cites the need to take care of her baby, and as the group splits up, Furseal expresses concern for leaving Olka and Gram alone, but Matthew assures him that Yor is strong.
Now alone with Olka and Gram, Yor inspects the suite for possible entry and escape routes. Yor talks with Olka, who says Furseal is a member of her crew playing a part, and explains how her family was killed, except her son Gram, and says she only desires a quiet life now. Gram, noticing his mother getting sad, starts to cry. As Olka calms him, they decide to go outside to grab some fresh air, but Yor explains her family is on the cruise too. As Olka and Yor talk about her family, Gram cries again, reminding them of their plan to go outside.
When they go outside for fresh air, Olka and Gram enjoy the breeze and the view, wistful about leaving their old life behind. Gram starts to sneeze, so they decide to head back. Yor promises to give it her all and finish the job for Olka and her son. Her words move Olka, so she reveals her son's name and offers to let Yor hold him, but when Yor does so, Gram starts to cry, and Yor gives him back.[1]
Later, the City Hall group and the Grey family have dinner at a fancy restaurant. After dinner, Yor escorts Olka and Gram back to their room. Once inside, Olka notes there has not been any sign of trouble the entire day, but Yor warns her that they must keep their guard up as they have no idea of where the enemy is or their plan. While the two women talk, Gram is resting in his mother's arms. As Olka decides to change for the night, she puts Gram softly in bed, but suddenly they hear someone knocking on the door.[2]
Yor looks through the peephole and sees a waiter with room service. Yor is relieved and tells Olka about this, but she says she did not order anything. Yor hears a gun click behind the door and quickly moves Olka to safety, so she quickly moves to the bed and holds a crying Gram. After the assassin is killed and his corpse is retrieved, Matthew informs the group that the itinerary got leaked and there are multiple enemies aboard the ship. He directs Yor to take Olka, Gram, and Zeb to a vacant room. After receiving domino masks to disguise themselves, Yor, Olka, Gram, and Zeb, leave for the second deck lounge.
The group head to a masquerade ball to blend in with the crowd. Upon arriving, an assassin is dispatched to kill Olka, but Yor stops him, grabbing his hand. She acts as if she was invited to a dance and dances the man away from Olka. Yor crushes the assassin's hand and knocks him unconscious to a seat. Yor returns to Olka, Furseal, and a scared Gram, and they decide to go through the shopping promenade to the second-class area, where they encounter Sickle-and-Chain Barnaby, who is defeated by Yor.[3]
As soon as they arrive at their new room, Gram starts to cry after being so scared, so Olka tries to comfort him, despite being scared herself. Furseal notices this and exclaims how terrified he was of their attackers. Olka and Gram jokingly disapprove of Zeb’s cowardice, while he is satisfied seeing them calm down.
Olka asks Zeb why he came with them instead of joining the gang's new boss. Zeb says he does not forget how much he owes to the previous boss and promises to protect them from harm. He relapses when he hears a knock on the door, and he quickly hides behind Olka while she and Gram look at him with indifferent expressions. The group rests for the night, with only Zeb and Gram asleep.[4]
On the next day, the group waits until the night and receives a call from Matthew, telling them that he got the all-ready signal from the ship at the rendezvous. While the rendezvous will be in four hours, Yor, Olka, Gram, and Zeb change into disguises and head out of their room.[5]
Their plan is to head to the emergency exit at the ship's fore, where they can leave for the rendezvous. As they walk through the ship, Yor says they have to be as quiet as possible, so Olka gently hushes Gram. The fireworks show begins the moment they head up to the deck, and the group gets startled by the sudden noise, especially Gram, who starts crying. Olka coos to her baby, telling him how beautiful the fireworks look, while Gram hugs her in fear. After calming down, they continue onward. They reach a ladder, so Yor grabs Olka and Gram and jumps all the way up, surprising and entertaining Gram. From above, a sniper watches them and prepares to shoot Olka as another firework goes off. Yor quickly grabs Olka and Gram out of the way and fights off another assassin's attack. Suddenly, a large number of assassins reveal themselves and surround the group, and Olka holds onto her son tightly.[6]
As the assassins surround the group, Yor tells Olka to hide with Gram and Zeb inside a hatch. While Olka and Gram go inside the hatch, an assassin points his gun at them. Zeb sees this and grabs Olka, shielding her from the bullets fired. As they tumble inside the hatch, Zeb shuts the cover. Gram starts crying in fright, and a worried Olka asks Zeb if he is okay, and he complains about how badly he is hurting even while wearing a bulletproof vest, so Olka tells him not to be so reckless. As soon as Gram sees Zeb is alright, he stops crying.[7]
After Yor and Matthew finish off all the assassins, Yor gets Gram, Olka, and Zeb from the hatch, and the group head to the emergency exit room. There, Yor and Matthew prepare the inflatable boat for them. Before leaving, Olka and Gram show their gratitude to Yor as Olka draws Gram into Yor's arms so she can hug him, saying that her hands are the reason her baby has a future. Yor appreciates the gesture and embraces Gram, remarking how warm he is.[8]
Relationships[]
Olka Gretcher[]
As Olka is his mother, Gram deeply loves her and even recognizes her as such after she changed her appearance. It is said that babies get to connect with their mother's feelings, and Gram usually reflected any emotion Olka felt during their time on the cruise.
Yor Forger[]
Yor was given the task of protecting Olka and Gram while aboard Princess Lorelei. While on the cruise, Yor got to interact a little bit with Gram and even held him, remarking how warm he was. Even a couple of times, Gram cheered for Yor when she grabbed Olka and him and protected them.
