“ | Be careful not to lie too much. Or you'll end up becoming an outcast like me. | ” |
— George to Anya Forger[1]
|
George Glooman (ジョージ・グルーマン, Jōji Gurūman?) is one of the supporting characters of the SPY x FAMILY series. He is a student at Eden Academy and a member of Cecile Hall.
Appearance[]
George is a young boy with a triangle-shaped head and short black hair.
Like all other male students, he wears Eden Academy's uniform—a black button-up shirt with black shorts. He wears long white crew socks with black shoes.
Personality[]
George is described as always being gloomy, causing him to be an outcast in his class. He appears to be jealous of Damian and his family for their reputation and accomplishments and developed a hatred for them after initially believing his father's company, Glooman Pharmaceuticals, was driven out of the market because of the Desmonds, going as far as hiring a spy with the help of his old butler to rig Damian and his brother's midterm answers.
Despite his negative traits, George is an ordinary, vulnerable child who is easily offended and upset when he feels injustice toward himself. He also has a sensitive side, which manifested itself when he said goodbye to his classmates who decided to support him when leaving school.
George often silently observes others and seems to have some insight, at least when he sees that someone is lying. Although Anya's lies about her cruise trip quickly became apparent, George was one of the first to realize that she was tricking to make an impression, but he did not interfere, watching the development of events from afar. Later, when Anya is ridiculed by her classmates and leaves school together with Becky, George shows an unexpected interest in her fate and gives the girl valuable advice based on his bitter experience. George told Anya that she shouldn't lie a lot if she didn't want to become an outcast like him, thus showing that he is uncomfortable with the situation in which he found himself because of his own lie.
Abilities and Skills[]
Manipulator: George appears to be particularly good at making people believe him, as shown when he almost achieves his goal of getting Damian in trouble with the teacher had Anya not intervened. Later, he manages to gain the sympathy of his classmates by telling them his story, making them grant his final requests before his presumed departure from Eden Academy, and, by the end of the day, he goes home with keepsakes from each of his classmates and a bouquet. However, most likely he did it so well because he sincerely believed that he would have to leave school and be sold into slavery in Westalis, until his father informed him of the true state of their affairs.[2]
He tried this tactic again when Becky and Damian demanded for his set of Pierre Pommier Macarons by claiming he used the little money he had on them, but it failed due to the fact he still owes them for the stuff they had given him.[3]
Relationships[]
Damian Desmond[]
At first, George hated Damian for always being the perfect boy with good grades, to the point of going to great lengths to try to make Damian get a Tonitrus, and even tried to have him expelled. After George explained his jealousy towards him and his family status and claimed he would be leaving Eden, Damian and other Cecile Hall students helped him fulfill his wishes, with Damian even lending George his Stella Star. Afterward, Damian and the other students gave George their belongings so he could remember them. The next day George returns to school, having to endure an embarrassing moment as Damian and the other kids ask him to return all the things they gave him.
After a long time, George never returned Damian's things. Later, when they were on the bus, George tacitly decided to demand sweets from Damian, believing that Damian owed him for the macaron he had once taken. However, Damian viciously disagrees with this statement, loudly reminding George that he did not receive anything, and his anger brings George to frightened tears.[4]
