“ | You're weak. You're afraid to die. You're afraid of being betrayed. You're incapable of trusting anyone. You have no one to believe in. No one to gaze at and intently scrutinize. You've given up on the world. Now you're just an empty man meddling in it for no reason greater than your own amusement. But I'm not afraid. I believe in that man. I think of him and think of him and think of him and think of him and think of him and think of him. It's what makes me strong!! It's why you have no hope of beating me! | ” |
— Fiona to Winston Wheeler[1]
|
Fiona Frost (フィオナ・フロスト, Fiona Furosuto?) is one of the recurring characters of the SPY x FAMILY series. She is a spy for WISE who acts under the codename "Nightfall" (〈
Appearance
Fiona is a fairly tall woman with a pale complexion. She has bobbed hair of a light lavender color and a long fringe covering much of the right side of her face, worn swept behind her left ear. She has cold purple eyes framed by light-colored eyelashes, and most often is seen wearing an emotionless expression. She is described as beautiful by Yor and has several admirers. Fiona's age is currently uncertain, but she appears to be younger than Loid.
Fiona is introduced wearing a purple duffel coat with a black turtleneck and pants underneath when visiting the Forgers' apartment. Her stud earrings take the shape of WISE's symbol.
Personality
After being trained by Twilight to hide her true emotions, Fiona tends to remain emotionless on the surface—even when making a mental confession of love to him.[4] Fiona is deeply in love with Loid, to the point of being capable of compromising Operation Strix by visiting the Forgers' residence and even telling Sylvia Sherwood and Loid himself to replace Yor and let her take over the role of the Forger wife. Fiona thinks of herself as the superior partner to Loid and wishes to separate him from Yor so they can be together. To others, like her co-workers, Fiona is seen as an unscrupulous and ambitious woman, capable of backstabbing her peers to build a reputation even bigger than Twilight's own. While this is true to an extent, her desire to build her reputation stems not from a lack of scruples or ambition per se but from a desire to impress Loid.
Despite her usually emotionless facade, Fiona has let her true feelings surface in rare instances. After Loid gets mocked by the Bolic Brothers during the Campbelldon tennis tournament, Fiona retaliates by beating them with tennis smashes. Later, when she challenges Yor to a tennis match with the intention of breaking her, Fiona is visibly in shock upon witnessing Yor's absurd strength and is crushed after losing to her. As she speeds away in her car, she breaks into tears as she declares to never give up her ambition. Later, when she sees Loid defeated and his life endangered at the hands of Winston Wheeler, Fiona goes into a rage and openly speaks her feelings as she defeats the rogue spy. She is also capable of severe embarrassment, which happens to her after recognizing that Sylvia knows about her feelings for Twilight.
Fiona can act hastily in getting missions done, especially if Loid is involved. For example, when infiltrating the Campbelldon tennis tournament with Loid, Fiona pushed herself to complete their mission and impress him as much as she could, to the point of bruising her hands. Fiona is also very distrustful of others and is willing to use them as pawns to fulfill her goals, like when she gained the help of a counterfeiter by calling SSS agents on him and subsequently protecting him from them. Despite her methods, Fiona is a proficient spy and capable of partnering with others, like Franky, who she has grown to trust to some extent.
Abilities and Skills
Enhanced Strength: While not as powerful compared to the stronger characters in the series, Fiona has impressive physical strength, shown when she took down the Bolic Brothers with her tennis smashes, who were strong enough to rip apart a steel fence with their bare hands, and, to some degree, even managed to rally a shot by Yor in a tennis match. After losing to Yor in said match, Fiona took to the mountains to train for her revenge match, which has improved her strength and endurance. She was able to pull a pile of tied-up logs with a bear sitting upon it and tame a mountain goat and an alligator.[5]
When Fiona reaches a state of complete rage, her physical prowess becomes extraordinary, allowing her to deliver inhumanly powerful blows. During her confrontation with Winston, her intense anger enabled her to incapacitate him effortlessly, disabling both his arms and sending him flying. It is possible that Fiona's training in the mountains played a significant role in enhancing her strength to such extraordinary levels. This training likely contributed to her exceptional combat abilities, granting her tremendous power when her emotions are unleashed. However, in this state, the strength of her blows is so great that it has serious effects on her body. Every limb she used to strike Winston with broke, and even a missed punch dislocated her arm.[1]
Enhanced Speed and Agility: Fiona has demonstrated to be quite nimble. She is capable of performing several acrobatic moves to avoid rubber bullets fired from multiple angles in the middle of an underground tennis match.[6] She was also able to dodge a bullet from an SSS agent while simultaneously throwing a knife at his hand to disable him.[7]
Poker Face: Fiona is able to conceal all of her emotions, making it impossible for anyone to tell what emotion she is feeling. At all times, she has a stone-cold look on her face, whether she is happy, upset, angry, or even proposing her love. Anya is currently the only person who knows her true nature due to her psychic powers.
Enhanced Senses: Fiona has good eyesight and can spot things from far away, whether it be watching someone from across a hall, noticing SSS agents stalking from behind, or detecting the little movements of a person through binoculars.
Expert Hand-to-Hand Combatant: After being trained by Twilight, Fiona has proven to be a formidable combatant. During an urgent mission intended for her former mentor, she took on an entire enemy group by herself and is capable of slamming a man into the ground after lifting him over her head.[5]
Weapons: Fiona is very adept with weaponry. In a mission where she took Loid's place in exterminating an enemy group, she's seen equipped with a vast variety of weapons, which include, but are not limited to, an assault rifle and grenades.[5]
Twilight: Although this is not a skill as such, Fiona's unwavering dedication to keep fighting, her pursuit of strength, and her overall demeanor is profoundly influenced by her connection to Twilight. He serves as her primary motivation and driving force for almost everything she does. The deep attachment she feels towards him leads her to go to extraordinary lengths, even engaging in confrontations or causing harm to others if they obstruct Twilight and his ideals.
Fiona's abilities are significantly amplified when she believes she can satisfy Twilight, as demonstrated during the Campbelldon tournament, where both of them collaborated seamlessly, utilizing Loid's motivation as a driving force to achieve victory in a surprising manner, working in perfect coordination to defeat their rivals. Her devotion to him extends to an extreme level, as she would willingly make the ultimate sacrifice for his well-being. A clear example of this is seen when Winston incapacitates Twilight, and Fiona, fueled by her fierce protectiveness, delivers inhuman blows to Winston, disregarding her own safety, resulting in breaking most of her bones. Loid's presence and happiness form the foundation of Fiona's actions, pushing her to extraordinary measures to ensure his safety and fulfill his desires.

Trivia
- During the original sketches, Fiona appeared to have more large, round eyes.[8] Tatsuya Endo seemed to have had a rough time drawing her, as he made many sketches and revisions for her design.[9]
- Fiona's first appearance in the original release of Chapter 29 featured her with a slightly different design, with raised bangs that made her right eye more visible, darker eyelashes, and lighter-colored eyes. This was changed in the release of Volume 5, in which her current and final design was used.
- Fiona was designed to be the direct opposite of Yor. Her design has short, light hair in contrast with Yor's long, dark hair.[9] Her color scheme is also dark blue/purple and lavender, in contrast with Yor's red and black. Their personalities are also opposites (cold and unwelcoming vs. warm and motherly).
- Fiona's chair, featured on the cover of the sixth volume, is a Heart Cone Chair designed by Verner Panton.[10]
- Fiona is never seen smiling outside of her (and Yor's) imagination.
- Fiona used to smile before Loid told her to "Bury your emotions deep."[3]
- The name "Nafalia Foney" that Fiona creates in the tennis tournament is derived from her agent codename "Nightfall" (same for Twilight's alias Twain). In Japanese, she used the name "Tobarī" (トバリー?) which is also a derivation of her Japanese codename, "Tobari" (
夜帷 ?).- The fake last name, Foney, is a humorous nod toward the "phony couple" they were acting as.
- In terms of combat ability, compared to Yor, Fiona is very low, even lower than Loid.[3] She appears to be on par with Yuri Briar.[11]
- As a result of her training in the mountains[12], Fiona's swing speed has increased. If she tries hard enough, Fiona can cut the ball in half.[3]
- Tatsuya Endo gave Fiona the code name "Nightfall" to symbolize how nightfall follows twilight.[13]
- Fiona's English dub voice actress is Lindsay Seidel. However, due to health complications, she was unable to record for Episode 21, and Bryn Apprill temporarily replaced her.[14]
- She shared her English voice actress with Anya Forger (Episodes 28–29).
Quotes
- (To herself, about Loid's smile with the Forgers): "Lionel, from the National Defense Force. Lawrence, a black market dealer, Robert, the politician's secretary. I've spent so much time studying so many Twilights. I know that masterful fake smile of his. And I can see a tiny hint of real emotion... seeping out from beneath it."[15]
- (To herself): "I am thankful for the rain... for hiding my emotions. Because we're spies, living in a world of shadows... because my beloved trainer taught me to... until the day that this cold war ends. But for now... even just being your cover story wife would be enough. I just want to be by your side. On our joint mission, I'll show you how capable I truly am. I'll make you realize that I'm the only one fit to be your wife!"[16]
- (To herself): "Twilight. My mentor. You've changed. You've developed inappropriate emotions from your time in the Forger Family. You're a knife with a chipped blade. And when I see what you've become, it makes my heart ache. Oh, Twilight..."[17]
- (To herself, after seeing Twilight's serious mode): "There it is. That's the Twilight who won my heart. The Twilight I can't stop chasing. The Twilight I want at my side. The Twilight who turned my respect into love. The Twilight whose dreams became my dreams. What I'm saying is… I love you."[18]
- (To herself): "What a wonderful man you are, Twilight. I'll achieve peace between East and West. And I’ll do it all for you."[19]
- (To herself): "The moment he referred to her as just "Yor" was the moment I knew I was only gonna get his official explanation. Nevertheless, his analysis was correct. By framing it was necessary for the mission, he's made it impossible for me to object. That was a dirty move, Twilight."[20]
