Ewen Egeburg (ユーイン・エッジバーグ,Yūin Ejjibāgu?) is one of the supporting characters of the SPY x FAMILY series. He is one of Damian Desmond's friends at Eden Academy and a student of Cecile Hall.
Ewen is a young boy with light skin and an elongated head. His hair is his unique feature, larger than his own head and light and combed back. When his hair is down, it reaches about chin-length.
Like all other male students, he wears Eden Academy's uniform—a black button-up shirt with black shorts. He wears long white crew socks with black shoes. During their mornings on their way to Eden Academy, he typically holds another bag in his arms along with his own bag on his back, the former likely to be Damian's bag.
Personality[]
Ewen first appears to be another arrogant child at Eden Academy and Damian's lackey, but he has shown that he is a loyal friend who has Damian's best interests at heart. Alongside Emile, Ewen is devoted to Damian and always follows him wherever he goes, even carrying his bag on their way to class. Ewen genuinely cares for Damian as a friend, getting concerned for him when he is hurt or pushing himself too hard.
Ewen has an affinity for space exploration, so much to the point that it is his dream to become a cosmonaut in the future.[2] He claims to have an appreciation for the romance of space exploration and is genuinely upset that his friends do not share the same passion, thus finding joy upon finding others who also like space adventures, even someone like Anya.
Ewen shows great respect for Damian, who is the leader of their clique. He looks up to Damian and places lots of faith in him, believing that Damian will make their country a better place when he becomes a politician. Regarding this, they are shown to be good friends and spend a lot of time together. Ewen calls him Lord Damian and usually does everything he asks for, even holding his backpack when walking to class. Despite this, he and Emile also show a mischievous streak toward Damian, chasing him around with an earthworm upon learning of Damian's fear, and they are not afraid to make jokes at his expense. Ewen is oblivious to Damian's crush on Anya and believes the two are enemies.
Ewen and Anya's common craving for space adventures
Since their orientation, Ewen has been on bad terms with Anya after she punched Damian, wanting to protect his friend from what he believes is a violent person. Ewen also looks down on Anya because of her lower class status, calling her a peasant and taking any opportunity he can get to belittle her. After their term finals, Ewen is upset that Anya got a Stella Star for academics before he did.[3]
The two briefly shared a bonding moment when Ewen discovered that Anya also enjoys space adventure, prompting him to tell her all he knows about it and pretending to be an astronaut crew together.[4]
As Becky is Anya's best friend, Ewen is also on bad terms with her, getting into heated arguments when their respective groups have their usual squabbles.
The original designs of Ewen and Emile were loosely based on the Japanese comedy duo Bananaman.[7]
Ewen and Emile were originally going to be featured on the illustration for Chapter 39 on Twitter. However, as it would be the first new chapter of 2021, Endo discarded the tweet to not "start the New Year with the likes of them."[7]
