PART OF THE FAMILY (MISSION: 37 家族の一員, MISSION: 37 Kazoku no Ichiin?) is the thirty-seventh episode of the SPY x FAMILY TV anime series and the final episode of the second season.

Synopsis[]

As Bond is on a walk with Loid, he has a premonition of an accident, so he tries to stop it, but is scolded by Loid. He then sees a vision of a building going up in flames and a sobbing girl standing in front of it.[1]

Summary[]

Bond bites Franky on Loid's orders

Bond pounces at Franky

At the Forger home, Loid prepares to take Bond out for a walk. He invites Anya, who rejects the offer to focus on doing origami, so he decides to do dog training with Bond. At the park, Loid trains Bond in suppression and protection, with Franky participating as the unwilling target. Loid finds that Bond is too kind to bark and bite and decides to move on to scent work and explosives detection, but Bond looks forlorn upon hearing him, to his concern. Franky correctly guesses that the training is reminding Bond of his bad memories at Project Apple and tells Loid to make the training fun before leaving. Accepting his suggestion, Loid takes Bond for a walk through the city. Meanwhile, back home, Anya makes herself a paper Stella Star and awards herself with it, though it quickly falls off her.

While walking, Bond sees a vision of a boy crying after dropping his ice cream. He looks around and spots the same boy holding the ice cream and makes a plan to prevent the ice cream's fall and receive Loid's praise. He runs forward and tries to stop the boy from tripping to the confusion of Loid and the boys, who think he is trying to steal the ice cream. Bond's actions end up causing the boy's ice cream to fall anyway, leaving the child in tears. Loid apologizes and buys him a new one with three scoops. Afterward, Bond has another vision of an old man getting struck by a bicycle. He quickly finds the man and pulls him by his coat, and while the man is angered, he is saved. Loid scolds Bond for biting strangers and is confused by his actions despite his lack of disciplinary problems. Bond gets another vision but chooses to ignore it after imagining an angry Loid getting rid of him.

Loid and Bond escape from the burning building

Loid and Bond are escaping from the burning building

Suddenly, Bond foresees an apartment in flames as a woman cries out for her "Daisy." Using his nose, he is able to pinpoint where the apartment is and tries running toward it. Loid initially holds him back but relents when Bond loudly barks at him. They arrive at the apartment, where Loid asks if anyone is still inside while the onlookers gossip that it is arson. Recalling his vision, Bond gnaws off his leash and runs into the building, with Loid following behind. In the building, Loid searches for Bond and is surprised to find that Bond has picked up a small pug that was left behind, wearing a collar with "Daisy" on it. They try to leave the building, but a flaming pile of rubble falls and blocks the way out. Loid quickly makes a plan to exit through the fire escape. Before Loid can make his move, Bond gets a vision and nudges him, trying to stop him. Suddenly, the floor in front of them collapses. Loid is shocked and thanks Bond for saving him, mistakenly believing that Bond's nose was able to detect the collapse. With the heavy smoke, Loid uses a plastic bag to make a crude oxygen tank, allowing them to cross the areas with smoke, then puts Daisy in a backpack. After that, they both jump out of the second-floor window and escape from the fire at the last moment.

Once safe with the two dogs, Loid takes Daisy out of his backpack. A nearby old man is amazed by their efforts to save Daisy. They realize Bond is on fire and quickly douse him with a bucket of water. With his fur wet, Bond's body is revealed to be skinny, and Loid has to stifle his laughter, to Bond's embarrassment. Suddenly, Bond catches a scent and tries to shake off the water before running off. Behind a corner, a man dressed in black enjoys the sight of the burning apartment, visibly excited as the woman from Bond's vision, Miss Bennett, cries out for Daisy. Bond quickly runs at him and bites his leg. The bewildered man digs through his bag, accidentally revealing fire accelerants and incendiary devices and outing himself as the arsonist of the building. Before the man strikes Bond with a knife, Loid knocks him out. After tying up the criminal, Loid calls in a tip for the police. Loid and Bond watch Daisy reunite with Miss Bennett. The old man informs the woman of her puppy's saviors, but Loid decides to slip away to avoid attention, to Bond's disappointment.

Loid warns Bond to be careful

Loid warns a wet Bond to be careful next time

Loid praises Bond for his actions but also warns him to be careful, as Anya would be sad if something happened to him. He then apologizes for prioritizing Bond's training, saying his dog duties should come second to him being a member of the Forger family. As they walk home, Bond affectionately rubs on Loid, who denies his intentions in embarrassment. Loid then tells Bond that because he has no other extra missions tomorrow, he suggests taking the whole family to the dog park after Bond got left out of the family vacation, and Bond happily barks in agreement.

Anya awards Loid and Bond with paper Stella Stars

At home, Yor fails to make a folded paper penguin, then makes a paper doll chain that quickly falls apart after she cuts it too much. Loid and Bond return home, and when asked why their dog is wet, he lies about what happened. Hearing his thoughts, Anya learns what Loid and Bond really did on their walk and proudly awards them with paper Stellas, dubbing it their "Worked Super Hard on Your Walk" award. While Loid is surprised, he wishes that Anya would get real Stellas, to her shock.

The episode ends while showing what each of the other characters is doing: Damian gets into a pillow fight with his friends at their dorm room, Becky goes shopping with Martha and her dog Wiesel at her home, Yuri happily enjoys a meal made for him by Yor while at work, Fiona does shooting practice while thinking of Twilight, and Franky attempts to make another power suit. Back at the Forgers, they enjoy dinner together while Bond rests next to his paper Stella.

Anime Notes[]

  • In this episode, the events of Chapter 58 take place after Chapter 59.
  • Anya and Yor's outfits in this episode's key visual is based on their outfits from the manga's Special Illustration 2.
  • Anime-exclusive content:
    • The anime adaptation of Chapter 58 includes a new subplot (with scenes at the beginning of the episode and after the credits) of Anya and Yor making origami at home while Loid and Bond go on a walk. • The final sequence of the episode is a montage of what the various side characters are doing while the Forgers have dinner.
      • During this sequence, Becky's dog Wiesel makes an appearance, despite not having physically appeared yet in the manga.
