WHO IS THIS MISSION FOR? (MISSION: 32 誰がための任務, MISSION: 32 Dare ga Tame no Ninmu?) is the thirty-second episode of the SPY x FAMILY TV anime series and the seventh episode of the second season.

Synopsis[]

Loid tries to pick out souvenirs that will make him look like a fun and happy dad so he can cheer Anya up. Meanwhile, Yor was facing off with Sickle-and-Chain Barnaby.[1]

Summary[]

After protecting Olka and her group from Sickle-and-Chain Barnaby's attack, Yor tells them to fall back. Observing Barnaby's weapon, Yor notes that it is a mid-range weapon and decides to take him down by getting into close range. However, Barnaby's skills with the chain prevent her from getting closer. A crowd gathers around the fighters, and Yor spots Anya cheering her on. Yor is initially terrified but is relieved when Anya pretends not to recognize her and manages to convince the onlookers that the fight is a circus performance.

Yor defeats Sickle-and-Chain Barnaby

Yor finishes her "performance"

As Yor continues to close the gap between her and Barnaby, she realizes she is hesitating and begins to overthink her next move. Barnaby also notices the crowd and decides to kill them next, but suddenly freezes up when he sees Yor charging at him with a scary look on her face. The frightened Barnaby tries to attack, but Yor weaves through the attacks and closes the distance. After pinning down his chains with her stiletto, Yor quickly grabs them, ties up Barnaby and immobilizes him by striking his pressure points, then finishes her "performance" with a bow.

The onlookers are impressed and quickly leaves as Yor takes Barnaby away. As this happens, Anya hears Loid finally finished with his outfit and hurries back to the shop. Anya revels in the knowledge that she helped Yor without Loid suspecting a thing, and is thrilled by the experience. Loid emerges from the fitting room, dressed in an outlandish combination of clothes and accessories, and believing to have achieved his goal of a fun and happy father. To his shock, Anya is unimpressed and calls him lame. Meanwhile, Yor returns to the others and resume their escape after ditching the unconscious Barnaby at a seat.

The Assassin Leader uses his special ability

The Assassin Leader is sniffing around Olka's cabin

Back at Olka's old cabin, the Assassin Leader breaks into it after it is attended by the staff. Inside, he takes in a large breath, sniffing the room. He identifies the perfumes used inside and deduces that among Olka's group, Yor has no scent. He contacts the informant and discusses their target's next move, predicting they will try escaping the next night. After the radio call, the informant hears two bugged assassins speaking ill of him and plotting to recover the money they paid him. Hearing this, the informant decides to make some contingencies.

Meanwhile, Loid and a sleepy Anya head back to their room. Anya walks in the opposite direction while muttering Yor's name and eventually falls asleep in the hallway after hitting her head. An irritated Loid picks her up, then thinks about how they have not heard from Yor, assuming that she is busy.

Yor and Olka's group arrive at their new room, where Yor assures them that the room is secure and has everything they need to hole up safely until the rendezvous. Gram starts to cry and Olka tries to comfort him, but she is visibly frightened as well. Furseal Grey sees this and exaggeratedly exclaims how scared he was of their attackers. Olka and Gram disapprove of Furseal's cowardice, while he is satisfied that they calmed down.

Young Olka and Zeb

A young Zeb was given bread by Olka

Suddenly, Olka then asks Furseal, whose real name is Zeb, why he came with them instead of joining the gang's new boss. Zeb gets flustered but says he does not forget how much he owes to the previous boss. He recalls how he would have been dead if not for the black market the Gretcher family ran during the aftermath of war and flashes back to when a young Olka secretly gave him some bread. Zeb remembers this memory fondly and says it is all the reason he needs to be with her. A blushing Zeb quickly tries to add that he dislikes Hapoon due to his friendships with pro-war extremists and promises to protect Olka from harm. However, Zeb quickly screams when he hears knocks on their door.

Yor opens the door to Matthew McMahon, who chastises her for forgetting their secret knock in the last room. He orders Yor to watch the door and the others rest up for tomorrow while he patrols the floor to reduce the enemy's numbers as much as possible. Zeb is baffled by how composed the assassins are and says that despite the war officially ending over a decade ago, wars are still around. Matthew replies that as long as people are the way they are, conflict will never end, and that he and Yor are soldiers fighting for their country. Before leaving, he sternly warns Yor not to drop her guard and to focus on the job, or else everyone will die.

Yor doesn't understand why she's still an assassin

Yor asks herself what is she doing here

While the group rests, Yor sees the telephone across her and remembers that she did not reach out to Loid and Anya and imagines being with them. She realizes that in her fight with Barnaby, she was dragging her feet out of fear that her wounds would cause her to lose her cover and family. After remembering Olka's question if the Forgers are just a cover for her, Yor reminds herself to keep her priorities straight, and as she thinks about Yuri, Loid, and Anya, she asks herself what she is doing here. As her day ends, 20 hours remain until Olka's rendezvous.

In the morning back at Berlint, Franky takes Bond out for a walk early in the morning and rants to the dog about having to babysit and pet-sit for the Forgers. However, after encountering a woman with her puppy at the park, Franky proposes that Bond become his dog.

Loid reflects on his recent failings

Loid thinks about his recent failings

Returning to Princess Lorelei, Loid goes to deck to reflect on his failure to understand Anya last night. Loid accepts that he is not the perfect spy he thought he was, realizing there are still things unfamiliar to him. Although he is a spy, he fears the unknown but will overcome it. And as the second day of the trip begins, he plans to overcome the challenge of understanding Anya. Elsewhere on the ship, Matthew informs Heymann and Vides that they will no longer be entertaining the Greys, saying the couple had a blowup the other night and are not in the mood to do anything. He assures the men that it is not their fault and tells them to take the day off to enjoy themselves, which the two men are grateful for.

Loid and Anya walk around the ship together, where Loid tries to observe, analyze, and adapt to Anya’s actions. On the other hand, Anya imagines that Loid will be shocked if he hears about Yor fighting people if she tells him her plan, so she schemes to ditch him to help her mother on her own. Anya starts at a miniature golf area, but Loid quickly finishes by getting a hole-in-one on every hole. Anya is shocked and tries it for herself, but ends up spending half the day trying to get the ball in. Throughout the rest of the day, Anya tries distracting Loid with more activities but gets herself too absorbed in every one of them. While this happens, Loid continues to observe Anya.

Loid and Anya agree to watch the fireworks

Loid and Anya agree to watch the fireworks

At dinnertime, Anya grimaces as she eats, in disbelief over forgetting Yor and instead enjoying herself. Meanwhile, Loid wonders why Anya looks upset after having fun all day. He worries that Anya hates him and is in a rebellious phase, so he asks if she is okay. Anya realizes she is worrying Loid and says she is enjoying herself but wishes Yor could be with them. Loid agrees and tells Anya that he can ask if Yor has time to meet tomorrow by sending a message through the concierge. He then says there will be fireworks after dinner and asks Anya if she wants to see them, adding that they might find Yor there. Hearing this, an excited Anya agrees to go.

Matthew receives a transmission Anime

Matthew receives a transmission

Standing by a radio, Matthew receives a transmission and makes a call Olka's room. Yor answers the phone and informs the others that they got the ready signal from the ship at the rendezvous. While it will be in four hours, the group prepares ahead and change into disguises. However, the informant intercepted the transmission and shares it with the Assassin Leader. Deducing that it could be from Olka's allies, the Leader makes an order to get their team into position for an ambush. Meanwhile, Yor, Olka, Gram, and Zeb head out after seeing that the coast is clear.
