Summary[]

Yor moving in with Loid

Yor moving in with Loid

Yor moves to Loid's house. He explains that they will have different rooms but will share one for appearances anytime they have guests over. Anya is happy to have a mother now and helps unpack Yor's luggage. Loid states he had a friend judge, who made them a marriage certificate from one year ago (which, in truth, was forged by Franky) and will think later of a reason why they lived separately until now and what to tell Yor's brother. Anya then shows Yor around the house and eventually Yor's room. Loid wonders if Yor likes the furniture arrangement and states he cleaned the room a bit. Yor likes it, and Anya tries to explain she helped with the cleaning, but Loid states she just tipped over a bucket of water. After Yor quickly unpacks her boxes, Loid notices a picture of Yor and her brother and figures he should introduce himself once Anya's exam is over. Yor explains she does not have anything suitable to wear for the interview, but Loid tells her they will go to the tailor. Wanting to help, Anya sees an unopened box and tries opening it, but Yor stops her as it contains her weapons and poisons.

Loid makes some cookies while Yor prepares coffee. As they eat, Yor is impressed with the cookies, and Anya states she helped make them. However, Loid explains she only got covered in flour and ate peanuts afterward. After finishing, they practice for the Eden College interview, where Loid explains that the prestigious school evaluates the parents and children about their social standing and how cultured they are. Loid acts as the interviewer and asks Anya her name and address, which she answers incorrectly. Loid then asks her how she spends her days off, and Anya states her father orders her to stay home, so she ends up watching TV alone. Loid states that gives a terrible impression and turns to Yor, asking her why she chose Eden College and how she plans to pass the exam. Yor thinks of how people "pass away" and gives a few reasons why a person can die. Loid proceeds with the next question and asks her to describe her parenting methods. Wondering, Yor says one should strike first to be victorious. Loid feels he should give up and passing the interview would be impossible. He suggests they should go out and learn more about what is normal for an upper-class family.

The new family heads out, and Anya wishes to hold hands with Yor, who happily obliges. Yor gets reminded of how she held her younger brother's hand but thinks she should be more careful after remembering how she hugged him and broke two of his ribs. Anya hears these thoughts and runs away from Yor. Loid then takes them to an opera to enjoy some first-class music, but the experience simply leaves Yor confused and Anya dozing off. Afterward, he takes them to an art museum, where Anya shouts inappropriate words while Yor gets fascinated by a painting of a guillotine. Anya sees a Kids Place, where kids can draw, and wishes to do such. Loid allows her while he and Yor take a break. Anya decides to draw her family, but once she finishes and Loid comes, she believes that if he sees it, he may figure out her ability and tries to cover it. To her relief, Loid assumes all the drawings are related to the spy series she watches. Next, Loid takes them to the tailor, who suggests making a dark blue semi-formal dress for Yor. Yor finds the color lovely but usually prefers black or red clothes as the cover blood splatters more easily. After ordering a couple of outfits and leaving, and since Yor is a regular at that tailor, Loid suggests telling the tailor they are married on their next visit. Next, they go to a photographer and take a family picture.

Anya feels overwhelmed after hearing many thoughts

Anya starts feeling sick

Since patriotism is important within Eden College, Loid takes them to a Nationalist Party rally, which proposes a possible peace with the West. Because of her ability, Anya gets overwhelmed by everyone's thoughts and feels sick. Loid deduces she is not good with crowds, and the family leaves. Anya eventually stops hearing the thoughts and then states she is hungry. Loid takes them to a restaurant, where Anya picks and eats the nuts from her place using her hands, while Yor gets fascinated by the knife, causing Loid to start losing heart over the success of the mission. Although he notes it is due to being expected to rely on others, he tries to find an alternative way to pass the interview. Seeing Loid thinking a lot, Yor suggests they get some fresh air. She takes them to a park on a hill with a good view of the city. As they enjoy the view, they see a man robbing an old woman. Yor quickly jumps in and starts chasing the man but loses him. Loid tries to track him but also loses him when he enters a crowded street. Anya then uses her ability and reads the minds of everyone but starts feeling sick and gets a nosebleed. As Loid tends to her, she locates the thief and points it out to Loid, who notices that the man has changed clothes, but his walk pattern is the same. As Yor joins them, Loid leaves Anya to her and jumps in to capture the thief. As he knocks him out, he retrieves the stolen purse and informs the crowd that the man is a purse snatcher and to call the police on him. The family returns the purse to the old woman and escorts her to a hospital. The woman explains that her money was for a gift for her grandchild. She gratefully thanks them for helping her and states they are a good family.

After returning home, Loid decides to do the mock interview again to much better results, at least until Anya remembers Loid jumping the thief as a response. Anya states that Loid was cool, and Yor confirms. Looking at them and recalling what the old woman said, he feels that one percent of his preparations are complete.

Anime Notes[]

  • This episode opens with an adaptation of the first three pages of Chapter 1. That sequence is censored compared to the manga. In that sequence, the dead bodies under Yor's chair are colored in black as a form of censorship, and the items under Loid's chair are also darkened. In previews released before the anime started airing, that same sequence (although not yet finalized) appears with the bodies uncensored and the items more visible.
  • Anime-exclusive content:
    • The sequences of Yor arriving at the Forger residence and being shown around the house by Anya, followed by having drinks and snacks with her and Loid before the practice interview, is expanded compared to the manga. Loid also asks Yor one additional question in the practice interview.
    • The flashback scenes with Loid cleaning and baking cookies and Anya attempting to help.
    • When Loid brings up that he had his and Yor's marriage certificate backdated a year, it is explicitly shown that Franky was the one who forged it.
    • During the museum visit, there are the new scenes of Anya drawing in the kids' area. More new scenes include the Forgers stopping at the tailor shop to buy new dresses for Yor and then going to a photo studio to take a family picture.
    • The shot of Yor arriving at the Forger residence at the beginning of the episode with an unsure expression directly contrasts with the shot of her near the end of the episode, returning home after their first outing with a much more relaxed expression.
  • The family picture Loid, Yor, and Anya take in this episode is the family photo that debuts in Chapter 25 of the manga, without Bond in it. That picture, in turn, was based on the cover picture for Chapter 2.
  • An opera singer performs the poem "Estuans Interius" from Carl Orff's Carmina Burana. In the manga, it was a female singer whose appearance and music notes are a reference to "Der Hölle Rache kocht in meinem Herzen" from W. A. Mozart's opera Die Zauberflöte.
