Eden's legendary dessert finally appears! In order to obtain the macarons that supposedly can make you into an Imperial Scholar if eaten, Anya and her friends race to get to them first.[1]
Summary[]
THE PASTRY OF KNOWLEDGE[]
The Pastry of Knowledge is considered one of the "Seven Wonders" of Eden Academy. It is said that a mysterious pâtissier randomly appears in the cafeteria and offers extraordinarily delicious desserts. As many of those who managed to eat this pastry have become Imperial Scholars, it has become rumored that the pastry makes one instantly smarter.
At lunchtime, Anya and Becky discuss the news that students will be separated by their performance in school in the following term, which worries Anya. Becky then tells Anya of a rumor that it will also be based on tomorrow's quizzes, one of which is Classical Language. The girls overhear two boys gossiping about the Pastries of Knowledge having a limited sale in Dining Hall 2, made by a formal royal chef visiting today. The student adds that eating one guarantees becoming an Imperial Scholar, which catches Anya and Becky's attention, and they take off to the dining hall. Anya anticipates the possibility of becoming a genius if she eats one, while Becky is excited to try macarons from a former royal chef. They see a queue of students lined up for the pastries, but Damian and his friends run up next to them with the same goal. The server then announces only one order left of the special "Pierre Pommier Macaron" set. The two groups try to get the last set but are stunned when George Glooman has already ordered it.
Damian and Becky rush up to George and demand he give the macarons to them. When George tries to protest, the kids remind him that he owes them. George concedes to give up four macarons out of the set of five macarons. The other kids realize there are five of them and decide to have a round of Old Maid to determine who gets the macarons. Anya is unaware of the rules as she has never played cards before, but wins the game using her mind-reading abilities. Damian and his friends are in disbelief and accuse her of cheating. When Damian thinks she could be reading minds, Anya panics and suggests they play another round, where she purposefully makes mistakes and gets the Old Maid.
Anya's facial expressions are easy to read, making it impossible for her to get rid of the Joker card. Everyone else gets rid of their cards, leaving only Anya and Damian. Anya panics at the thought of not getting a macaron, thus failing her tests and being in a different class from Becky. As Damian is about to take a card, he sees Anya tearing up, and he takes the Old Maid, losing the game.
After getting her macaron, Anya offers to share half with Damian, who angrily rejects her in embarrassment. Emile, Ewen, Becky, and Anya eat their macarons, and Anya becomes fired up after eating the pastry, studying with fiery vigor until the quizzes the next day. When their results come back, Henry shows that Anya's quiz results are just as bad as before, leaving Anya and the others in disbelief, and Becky tries to cheer up the depressed Anya so that she will make it up on her finals.
At home, Loid and Yor look at Anya's quiz papers while Anya goes to her room to sulk. Loid notes that she would have done well on her Classical Language test had she not lost so many points on spelling mistakes. He wonders how Anya did so well since they barely studied Classical Language in class and if she is acquainted with it due to her upbringing. Loid decides to brush it off and tells Anya that he made her favorite hamburg steak for dinner, which cheers her up. Yor adds that she tried to make dessert, and Bond barks in horror.
THE INFORMANT'S GREAT ROMANCE PLAN Ⅱ[]
Loid visits Franky's store to pick up some intel for an extra mission. Loid asks for some pictures he requested, but Franky says his contact that specialized in that intel got done in by Garden, an assassin group in Ostania that takes orders from the shadow government and is believed to be urban legends. Loid still requests the pictures, but Franky wants his help for a job in exchange for the extra trouble: finding a missing cat. Franky explains that the cat, Kopi, belongs to Kacey, a woman he is trying to court. Completely uninterested in this plight, Loid leaves. Franky turns to his contacts to find Kopi's location, which is near city hall. On his way there, he runs into Yor, who is out on her lunch break.
After Franky explains his situation, Yor decides to help him out. Franky sets up several of his own inventions to locate Kopi and uses a catnip device to lure in the feline. However, the device draws in a large crowd of cats that swarm Yor and Franky, but Kopi is spotted among them. Franky tries to catch Kopi but fails, and he decides to use his exo-skeleton power suit. But when Kopi starts heading to a major street, Yor tears off a chunk of the exo-skeleton and throws it at the cat, stopping it in its tracks and allowing Yor to capture him. While he lost ten years of his work, Franky returns Kopi only to learn that Kacey already has a boyfriend. Franky wishes the couple all the best and while he leaves, he cries as he resolves to live for his work.
Yor returns to city hall in a cheerful mood, feeling good after helping Franky. Camilla comments that Yor seems to be in high spirits while Millie asks if Loid bought Yor something nice. When Yor denies it, Camilla and Millie are annoyed at Yor for having a nice time. Sharon sarcastically suggests Yor is happy because she has become normal, prompting Yor to become excited. A man in a suit comes in to tell Yor that she has a phone call, informing her that it is from her special contact. When Yor picks up the phone, the caller calls her Thorn Princess and says she has a new "client."
