“ | Have you ever convinced yourself your enemy was subhuman so you could slaughter them like animals? Have you ever been so haunted by shame and regret afterward that you cried until you puked? Have you ever had friends who did the same, and took their own lives? Did you learn nothing about war at your university? | ” |
The Doggy Crisis Arc is the sixth story arc in SPY x FAMILY.
A terrorist group from Berlint University targets Minister Brantz in order to start a war between Westalis and Ostania.
Summary[]
Anya requests a dog as a reward for her first Stella Star, so the Forgers take the weekend to visit the pet shop. However, as soon as they arrive, Loid gets called out on a mission: to prevent an assassination plot against Westalis's Foreign Minister Brantz by a group of isolationist terrorists. After being filled in on the details, Loid disguises himself as the group's leader Keith Kepler to trick Kris, one of their members, into spilling the details of their assassination scheme, which involves the use of bomb dogs. While WISE agents search the terrorists' hideouts, Handler shares with Loid that the dogs are test subjects from a failed government project and likely have enhanced abilities.
Anya and Yor head to an adoption fair to continue looking for a dog. There, Anya sees a large white dog through a window and, after telepathically linking with him, sees herself and the rest of the Forger family in his thoughts. Anya curiously decides to follow the white dog, which leads her right to the terrorists' hideout. She gets caught listening to the group's plans, and Keith decides to silence her.[2] However, the white dog protects Anya and helps her escape after showing her a vision of the future. As they flee, Anya realizes that the dog is a clairvoyant.
WISE continues pursuing the terrorists, but all hideouts they find are abandoned. Meanwhile, Yor searches for Anya and sees her running on the back of the white dog. The terrorists eventually catch up to the pair and attempt to kill Anya. Yor arrives in the nick of time and takes out Kurt from harming Anya.[3] After failing to get his dog to kill them, Keith runs away. Yor reports the incident and terrorists' plan to the police while Anya catches a glimpse of the white dog's next future vision. In it, Loid dies from an explosion near a clock tower and Minister Brantz is assassinated. The deaths lead to a war between Westalis and Ostania, as Westalis holds the Ostanian government responsible for Brantz's assassination. Anya runs off with the dog in order to stop the explosion from going off and save Loid, much to Yor's confusion as she chases after her.[1]
WISE and Handler capture all the terrorists, except Keith, and interrogate them. They end up getting four potential bomb locations to check, and Loid heads off to investigate one of them. Anya gets to the bomb first, but because she does not know how to disarm it, she leaves a cryptic message for Loid, hoping it will stop him from opening the door and activating the bomb behind it. Anya's plan works as Loid finds the bomb, leaving it to the State Security Service to deal with it. He then heads to Minister Brantz in order to impersonate him and lure out Keith. While simultaneously avoiding Yuri from escorting him to the summit, the disguised Loid gets into a car and begins driving around, and, just as planned, Keith follows after him.
Other agents engage in a car chase with Keith to capture him but fail. Loid decides to run off on foot, and Keith sends his bomb dog after him.[4] Loid gets pinned by the dog, but he quickly removes the bomb and throws it in the river before it can be detonated by Keith. With his plans foiled, Keith attempts to escape, but Yor spots him and kicks his car off the road, causing him to crash into a pole. Yor reports the unconscious Keith to the police, and the terrorist leader is taken away for good.
The Forgers reunite after Keith's arrest, and Loid learns that Anya and Yor got caught up in the terrorist plot. Aware that the white dog is one of the test subjects, Handler impersonates an SSS agent and approaches them to take him into custody. Remembering the dog's first vision, an upset Anya declares that she wants to keep him and threatens to stop going to school if otherwise. Not wanting to endanger the mission, Handler approves to have the dog under Loid's supervision.
The dog arrives at 128 Park Avenue the next day and receives a warm welcome from the Forgers.[5] The next day at school, Anya fails to impress Damian when she tells him about her new dog and struggles to come up with a name for him. Later, the Forgers decide to take a trip to the dog park, where Loid reaffirms his goal to end the cold war. Anya is able to find a name their dog after noticing the similarities in how he looks and acts like Bondman from Spy Wars, thus naming their new family member "Bond."[6]
