Daybreak (〈
Appearance[]
Daybreak is a tall and well-built man who appears to be Loid's age. He has short, worn-loose brown hair and green eyes (blue in the manga).
Daybreak wears a beige pork pie hat with a black ban, a navy blue turtleneck under a black jacket, black pants, and brown shoes. At both of the shoulders of his jacket sleeves is a symbol of a half-sun, a symbol for his code name.
Personality[]
Daybreak is an overconfident and vain individual. Declaring himself an elite spy despite appearing to have little to no background in the profession, Daybreak has complete faith in his abilities and performs almost every one of his actions with great bravado, doing rolls and finishing with a pose during his first infiltration mission. Daybreak's confidence is matched by his incompetence as a spy, as he fumbled around Eden Academy during his mission and was only able to evade getting caught by the school's security through his own luck and with Loid's interventions to clean up his mess.

Daybreak making efforts to become a famous spy
Daybreak desires to make himself known as a spy as famous as Twilight, which conflicts with how a spy would normally stay hidden. In a rare moment, Daybreak acknowledges that as a spy, people will never know who he is, which he then decides to solve by signing his name on the tests he doctored. When he is caught in the act by a professor (a disguised Twilight) who offers to keep his actions a secret, Daybreak instead demands that the world know of his deeds, even requesting the man to embellish them a little to make his name known.
Synopsis[]
Midterm Exams Arc[]

Daybreak infiltrates Eden Academy
After the midterm exams at Eden Academy finish, Daybreak is given his first mission when he is hired by George Glooman and his butler using the boy's three months of allowance money. Daybreak is tasked with changing the Desmond brothers' midterm answers to failing ones. Going in with only the information he was given, even writing the details of his mission on his hand, Daybreak somehow manages to infiltrate the elite private school. While he sneaks around the school grounds, Daybreak has an inner monologue explaining who he is and why he became a spy and picked his code name: to one day confront the famous Westalian agent Twilight and see who the true spy is between the two. Daybreak heads to the school vault where the exams are, and, despite his efforts to stay hidden, he is quickly spotted by Loid, who is disguised as an Eden professor and also at Eden for a similar goal.
Daybreak moves towards the north hall where the vault is but almost gets caught by some security guards. However, he manages to avoid getting caught by holding himself sideways and high off the ground on a signpost, which shocks Loid. Daybreak continues to the building but finds that the door is locked. Instead of trying to pick the lock like Loid was planning to do, he blatantly breaks a window on the door and opens it from the inside. Not wanting unwanted attention, Loid plants a soccer ball by the door to make it look like an accident caused by the soccer team.

Daybreak "knocks out" the disguised Loid
Daybreak reaches the vault, and when the guard there questions him, he pretends to be an Information Sciences professor but has no I.D. prepared to prove his identity. Just as the guard gets suspicious of him, Loid steps in to give Daybreak the fake I.D. of an Information Sciences professor. After the men are given clearance to enter, Daybreak thanks the professor for helping him. Outside the vault holding the exams, Daybreak attempts to open the door with the passcode he copied onto his hand but quickly realizes he incorrectly copied it. After an awkward silence, he pretends to leave and lets Loid open it. After the vault is opened, Daybreak knocks Loid to the ground (although clumsily) and drags him inside the vault.
Once inside, Daybreak finds the box with the first-years' test answers but momentarily struggles to open it. After successfully altering Damian and Demetrius's test scores, he gloats for a bit, believing he will get more jobs after this mission. After mentioning being on the papers, Daybreak reminds himself that it will not happen as he is a spy and no one will know who he is. He then solves this problem by deciding to sign his name on the tests to gain exposure. Hearing all this, a shocked Loid jumps up and shouts that spies are not supposed to leave a trace.

Daybreak gets fired for failing his mission
Instead of being mad that he was discovered, Daybreak follows his desires and insists that Loid tell everyone about him. Daybreak introduces himself to Loid and requests him to exaggerate his feats and not reveal his mission details. He then bids goodbye and rolls away with a laugh, leaving the master spy dumbfounded. Loid then restores the Desmond brothers' test answers, foiling Daybreak's efforts. After George finds out that the Desmond brothers' test scores were not changed, Daybreak is called to learn that he failed his mission and is promptly fired, much to the man's confusion and dismay.[1] Later, when hearing George's thoughts at school, Anya learns that Daybreak was the spy that Loid had previously mentioned in his thoughts.[2]
Campbelldon Tennis Arc[]

Daybreak defeated by Nightfall
Daybreak makes a brief appearance at Cavi Campbell's Campbelldon tennis tournament as a participant. During the tournament, he unknowingly reunites with Loid when he faces off against him and his spy colleague Fiona Frost, aka Nightfall, who have disguised themselves as the "Foney couple" as part of their infiltration. In her efforts to impress Twilight, Nightfall defeats Daybreak and his partner with unnecessarily bold and flashy plays.[3]
Term Finals Arc[]
Since Daybreak's infiltration of Eden after the midterm exams, the school discovered evidence of it and significantly strengthened its security procedures. As such, by the time of Anya's first term finals, Loid has lost the option of changing her test answers if she fails her exams, much to his frustration. Loid briefly ponders if the foolish Daybreak was actually a master spy whose true goal was to undermine Operation Strix, but he quickly comes to his senses and disregards the thought.[4]
Abilities and Skills[]

Daybreak hanging on a signpost
Stealth: Daybreak does not appear to have much sense for stealth, performing his infiltration with little preparation and actively making efforts to make himself known. Despite this, he was able to remain mostly undetected from Eden's security.
Strength: Daybreak appears to have above-average strength, as he was able to quickly hold himself to a signpost sideways, showcasing great grip strength and agility, which impressed even Loid. He was also able to knock Loid to the ground with a sneak attack.
Relationships[]
Twilight[]
After hearing rumors that Twilight has infiltrated Ostania, Daybreak decides that he will be the one to go against and defeat him, thus giving himself his code name. Daybreak unknowingly meets his "rival" during his first mission, and his actions cause the spy to gain a low opinion of him. Despite that, Loid appears to sympathize with Daybreak's brief moment of knowing that his actions will not be publicly known, something that he himself has been told by his superiors at WISE.

Trivia[]
- When Daybreak faces off against Loid and Fiona at the Campbelldon in Episode 22, the names of him and his teammate: "D. Mauchly" and "E. Page" are shown. This could mean that either of those names could be Daybreak's real name or an alias he used at the tournament.
