Kigeki, officially translated in English as Comedy, is a song by Japanese singer-songwriter Gen Hoshino. It is Hoshino's 13th single, and it was written as the ending theme for the first cour of the 2022 TV anime SPY x FAMILY.

──How did you feel when you were chosen to sing the ending theme song?
- When I received the offer, I had just finished reading the original work, so it felt like fate. I enjoyed reading it very much, so I was really looking forward to being able to write the ending theme song for this work.
──What are your thoughts on the original manga SPY x FAMILY?
- I thought this "family structure" itself was a wonderful idea. The balance between Twilight and Yor, who are armed but know nothing about each other, and Anya, who is not armed but has the power to advance the story and knows all of their secrets, is great. I think it could have been a very serious story, but I loved that it could be enjoyed as a "comedic work" or a "comedy."
──What is the name of the song and your thoughts on the music?
- I was given the message by the production staff that the theme of the song should be "family," so I wrote the song about my idea of family while being conscious of the sense of family that the story has. I had previously written a song called "Family Song" on the same theme, but I think I was able to create something completely different with this "comedy" song.
──Please give a message to those who are looking forward to the anime.
- I am very happy to be able to color the animated world of SPY x FAMILY. We worked very hard on the animation, and I hope you will enjoy every part of it, including the ending and the song "Kigeki."[4]
──Please tell us about the significance of the song title.
- One of the main things I like about SPY x FAMILY is that it's a comedy. The word kigeki means "comedy," but it doesn't just mean jokes. It also has a sense of "subverting tragedy into humor, because life is inherently tragic." That sense of kigeki is a perfect match to the world an music that I like to express, as well as a perfect match for SPY x FAMILY, so I chose it as the title.
──What inspired the lyrics and composition of the song?
- I based the BPM of the song on the image of Anya walking while holding hands and then composed the song around that. As for the lyrics, my image of family and the image of family presented in SPY x FAMILY have a lot of points in common, and that's where I got inspiration for the lyrics.
──There are so many words and phrases in the lyrics that are evocative of the show. Do you have a favorite?
- I like the lyric "chi ni masaru mono, kokorotachi no keiyaku wo," which means that the vows made from one heart to another can be stronger than the bonds of blood.
──What was your reaction when you saw the completed anime opening for the first time?
- I was moved. I was surprised at how perfectly they'd captured what they were going for, and I was very impressed with the richness of the animation and the level of detail used to capture the essence of SPY x FAMILY's world.
──Do you have any favorite scenes or characters from the anime?
- I love all the characters, of course, but Mr. Yamaji's performance as Henry Henderson when he says "elegant" is so flawless I couldn't stop laughing. I'll never forget that.
──What has been the reaction from your fans to the release of "Kigeki"?
- I was very happy that they immediately supported the song's message and groove.
──Do you feel you've expanded the band's creative horizons as a result of making that song?
- Even now, the comment section of the song's YouTube video has notes written in a great many languages from all over the world. I was really delighted by that. Seeing so many people responding to the song's message makes me see how music can overcome cultural differences.
──Do you have a final message for your fans?
- Thank you so much for enjoying my song "Kigeki." I truly hope it can remain a part of the background music of the Forger family's story and endure forever[5]
