Mission 67 (
Summary[]
Part 1[]
At Eden Academy, Anya demands that Damian give her the cake she believes he promised her. Damian argues that he never promised anything and reminds her how she spilled noodles on him yesterday. Damian wonders if Anya has an ulterior motive but is relieved she only wants cake instead of asking to meet his father. Hearing his thoughts, Anya then tells Damian that she wants to go to his house with her family. Ewen and Emile scoff at the request, saying that her family interacting with the Desmonds is laughable. In response, Anya says that Yor has become friends with Melinda Desmond, Damian's mother.
The kids are shocked to hear this, and Damian demands to know if his mother said anything about him. He thinks that if she learns about any of his "dark preschool-era" secrets, he is done for. He then thinks about said secrets, from wetting the bed to not sleeping without his favorite stuffed animal. Anya is amused by these thoughts, but she assures Damian that Melinda did not say much about him. Damian's mood lowers, and he turns around in a huff, but not before belittling Anya and her family. Anya gets irritated and says she and her family are serious, referring to Operation Strix, but Damian and Becky interpret it romantically.
At Berlint General Hospital, Loid gets swarmed by affection from the staff and patients. While Loid appears humble about his popularity, he thinks about how his efforts to reinforce his cover identity and grow his networks of contacts have been going well. Watching from a corner, Fiona admires Twilight, but notices a man also watching Loid from afar with an frustrated expression. Later, Loid shares his new plan with Fiona: interact with any patients connected to Melinda. He explains to Fiona that Yor managed to join Melinda's social circle and how he wants to extract any information from them. Fiona proposes to be his wife to help, but Loid rejects her as he needs her for a support role, to Fiona's disappointment. Fiona says some patients may be connected to Melinda but believes Loid will not be able to see them. Loid assumes it is because of his lack of reputation, but Fiona corrects that their medical director will not assign him any patients out of personal spite.
Fiona explains that the director, Gerald Gorey, looks at Loid with envy, which deepens the more his reputation rises. Gerald built his position through careful networking and values status and reputation. Because of this, he has grown jealous of Loid's rising popularity in the hospital, even though Loid taken great pains to get on Gerald's good side. Fiona says all exams for VIP patients are personally assigned by Gerald, meaning Loid will have to deal with him sooner or later. As Fiona exits Loid's office, Gerald jealously watches from a corner. Believing that Loid is pursuing Fiona, whom he has feelings for, he vows to make Loid a pariah in the hospital.
Gerald begins his scheme as he tampers with Loid's schedule, making him arrive half an hour late to a meeting. Aware of Gerald's ploy, Loid plays along to satisfy him. Gerald imagines the staff will look down on Loid now, but they assume Loid was overworking and give him their approval to rest. Gerald is shocked since he never received such treatment from them. Gerald concocts a new plan by giving Loid coffee filled with powerful laxatives. Loid accepts the drink but crafts an antidote to lessen its effects. During a session, Loid has to excuse himself to the bathroom after his stomach grumbles. Loid's young patient sees this and says he has been inspired by Loid's tenacity. Watching from a corner, Gerald trembles in anger since he thought the patients would be disgusted with Loid as they have been with him. Loid later walks around with toilet paper hanging from his pants, and to Gerald's shock, the staff sees this as a new side of Loid that they seem to like.
Gerald writes a poorly written letter pretending to be Loid requesting a meetup with Fiona. He hopes it will get Loid in trouble for infidelity and help him get closer to Fiona. To his surprise, Fiona crumples up the obvious forgery and talks about it with Loid afterward. Fiona suggests getting rid of Gerald, but Loid says they will keep putting up with him. Frustrated, Gerald makes his last resort move, calling the State Security Service and reporting Loid as a spy.
Part 2[]
Two incognito SSS officers arrive at the hospital and meet with Gerald to confirm the report. Gerald shows them Loid, the alleged suspect. Gerald lies that he saw Loid rummaging through the records room at night and claims he is selling the hospital's information to the West. Gerald then takes the officers to Loid's desk, where he planted a file filled with fake evidence for them to find. The officers look through the file and see all sorts of classified files inside. The officers decide to arrest Loid, cornering him when he is alone and handcuffing him. Loid is shocked while Gerald gleefully watches from a corner. Loid talks with the officer who cuffed him, revealed to be Franky, asking why he did that. An amused Franky says he wanted to see the look on his face, and now he wants to have some fun after being asked to intercept Gerald's report and play a part in Loid's scheme. Fiona, the other officer, reminds the two that Gerald is watching, so they resume their ruse.
Franky shows Loid the files while Fiona reveals Gerald from his hiding spot and exposes him as Loid's accuser. Gerald frantically reasons that he assumed Loid's rising popularity was because of a spy technique, which Franky confirms in his thoughts. Looking at the files, Loid points out that they were typed on a different typewriter than the one he uses. Franky adds that it has the font of an old typewriter, and everyone pinpoints it back to Gerald, the only person in the hospital with that kind of typewriter. The situation quickly turns on Gerald, who tries to deny that he framed Loid, but Franky forces him to name himself. Fiona says Gerald is on the hospital's surveillance list, and after Franky cites his misdeeds, she declares that they should be arresting Gerald instead.
Before Gerald gets taken away, Loid stops the faux officers, saying that despite his misconduct, Gerald would never sell out his country, is more popular than him, and is a great team leader. With fake tears, Loid proclaims Gerald is "the hospital's greatest treasure" and asks to be arrested in his place. Gerald is touched by this act, while Franky pretends to be moved and lets them go. Gerald is brought to tears and is forever grateful to Loid, who offers to help lighten his load with things such as the VIP exams. Outside, Fiona and Franky decide not to change out of their costumes, Fiona because Loid made her the costume, and Franky because he likes how cool he looks. With Gerald dealt with, Loid returns home and wonders if Plan C can finally get moving. Anya hears his thoughts and fears she will fall behind, then begins to anguish over the meaning of "friendship."
