Overview
Don't think of it as cheating, okay? It took a lot of practice to learn how to use this thing!
— Carrol to Loid Forger and Fiona Frost[1]

Carrol Campbell (キャロル・キャンベル, Kyaroru Kyanberu?) is the son of Cavi Campbell and the older twin brother of Kim Campbell. He is one of the antagonists of the Campbelldon Tennis Arc, being Twilight and Nightfall's final opponents in the Campbelldon.

Appearance[]

Carrol is a young man of average height. He has blond hair, which he slicks back with a strand of hair hanging on the right side of his face.

His tennis attire consists of a blue-gray low V-neck shirt with a collar, white tennis shorts, and red wristbands. Strapped at the back of his waist, he wears a small black pack with a cord connected to his modified tennis racket, which likely powers it.

Personality[]

Carrol is a cocky and arrogant person, confident in his tennis skills. He has a strong desire to win, to the point of using underhanded tricks to get the upper hand on his opponents and ensure his victory. However, after he and his sister lose to Loid and Fiona during the Campbelldon, he is humbled by the experience and swears to train hard to become a great tennis player using his own strength.

History[]

Carrol is a high school student. According to Loid's information, Carrol and his sister Kim have been playing tennis since early childhood and participated in their father's underground tennis tournament, the Campbelldon, where they achieved two consecutive victories.

Synopsis[]

Campbelldon Tennis Arc[]

Carrol hits the ball back

Kim and Carrol, playing as a team, defeated every opponent they played against, easily reaching the finals against Loid and Fiona, who are undercover as the Foney couple. As the start of the final match begins, the odds are in the Foneys' favor, but Cavi bets ten million on his children. Carrol tells Kim that he got word from their father that they do not need to make the game look close this time which Kim is pleased about, as she is eager to get the match over with and get the new yacht that Cavi promised them. Carrol pulls out his jet-powered tennis racket and Kim her whip racket. When Loid serves the ball, Carrol returns it to Fiona with lots of force from the rockets, and Fiona ends up landing it out of bounds. Carrol tells them not to think of it as cheating as he had to practice a lot to learn how to use it.

In the next game, Loid makes a serve that neither of the siblings will seemingly be able to reach. However, Kim releases a latch on her racket, allowing it to extend far enough to hit the ball, and drives it down onto the other side of the court, scoring them a point. Using these special rackets, the siblings continue to win the first two games and, thus, the first set of the match. As the second set begins, Carrol serves with a powerful hit, followed by a return from Loid. Kim tries to hit the ball with some spin, but Fiona quickly returns it, scoring a point. As they continue playing, Loid and Fiona win three more sets.

Knowing they will lose at this rate, Carrol looks over to a suited man on the sidelines, who gives him a nod before fiddling with a control panel. In the next game, a floor tile under Fiona's foot sinks into the ground as she makes her serve, causing her to hit it out of bounds.[2] More sunken floor tiles are used against Loid, who avoids them and manages to score a point. Carrol then tries hitting the ball in another sunken tile and bouncing it back in his direction. To his shock, however, Fiona intercepts it and slams it to the ground, scoring another point.

Carrol decides to change plans: manipulating the net's height. He signals to the staff, and they comply. Loid and Fiona notice the changes and opt to work around them. When the Campbells realize their tricks are not working, they try using more against the Foneys, from gusts of wind to coating the ball with stink spray. However, all their schemes only amounted to little more than a slight annoyance to the Foneys, who win the set and tie the scores.

Carrol's Signal

With the deciding set upon them, the frustrated Campbell siblings decide to "call in the big guns." The game begins, and as Fiona is about to make her return, Carrol quickly sticks out his tongue and moves it around, signaling to a sniper hiding in the vents to shoot Fiona. To everyone's surprise, Loid tackles Fiona to the ground, taking the bullet for her. Carrol jokes about them being touchy but is amazed that Loid saw the bullet coming. He is even more amazed when he sees Loid get up and walk off from being shot. When Carrol hears that Loid is apparently suffering from a hangover, he is astounded and finds it unbelievable.

The game resumes, and Carrol makes another signal to attack Loid mid-serve. Loid staggers to the side and finishes his serve, surprising everyone. The sniper radios to the "court interference squad" for assistance, telling them to do whatever it takes to ensure the siblings win. Their tricks do not work on the agents, who predict their moves and move around them. The sniper even calls in the ball boys to make their move, but the extra interference fails to stop the Foneys. Seeing all this, a frustrated Cavi yells at his children to get it together and beat their opponents, as he has a lot riding on this match.

Carrol's Loss

Carrol loses to Loid

The ball and a bullet are shot at Loid, who returns them with a swing. The parried bullet hits Carrol in the stomach and staggers him, and he claims to the line judge that he had too much milk in the morning, resulting in stomach cramps. Seeing that both teams appear impaired in the final stretch, the commentator calls the match a battle of sheer will as the audience cheers. While they play, Carrol thinks about how he does not want to lose and be beaten by Loid but sees that he is no match for him. Loid jumps up in front of Carrol, intimidating him with his aura as he slams the ball under the boy's frozen legs.

With that, the Foneys win the championship match, and the men betting on them stand up and cheer while Cavi sinks into his seat. Carrol approaches Loid, realizing that despite being aware of the tricks, the Foneys still won. Carrol tears up and confesses that this is the first time he is disappointed in himself. Loid encourages Carrol, who is young and talented, and by working hard to hone his skills, he can become a great player one day. Carrol swears to train hard, and Loid cheers him on.[3]

Abilities and Skills[]

Tennis Skills: Like his sister, Carrol has practiced tennis from a very young age, developing good reflexes and speed, being able to defeat all the competitors in the tennis tournament alongside his brother. Even up until the final match against the Foneys, the twins mention that during every match they were holding back.

Physical Strength: As mentioned, Carrol has great agility and skill in tennis, but highlights that he was able to control a jet-powered tennis racket in his final game against the Foneys, keeping up a good match while also controlling the force of both hitting and returning the blows to Loid and Fiona.

Relationships[]

Kim Campbell[]

Carrol has been training in tennis with his younger twin sister since they were young. Not much can be seen about their relationship with each other, but they viewed the sport they played differently, as Carrol was very passionate about it and sought to win at any cost, whereas Kim found it lame and only played for their father's awards for winning.

Loid Forger[]

Campbelldon Finale

Carrol is motivated by Loid to become a great tennis player

Knowing him as "Twain Foney," Carrol initially saw Loid as someone below his skill level. However, as their match progressed, Carrol saw the gap between them, even while using underhanded tricks to get the upper hand. After losing, he admitted to Loid that it was the first time in his life that he felt disappointed in himself. To his surprise, Loid motivates him to work hard to become a great tennis player, moving Carrol as he swears to Loid thard.
