— Byron to Becky Blackbell[1]
|
Byron Blackbell (バイロン・ブラックベル, Bairon Burakkuberu?) is the father of Becky Blackbell and the CEO of Blackbell Heavy Industries, a major military contractor in Ostania.
Appearance[]
Byron appears to be a tall, middle-aged man. Similar to his daughter, he has short dark brown hair with uneven bangs that are swept to the side, narrow-shaped eyes with double eyelids, and thin and short eyebrows. He also has a walrus moustache.
Byron typically wears a dark brown suit with a tie that has many military aircrafts printed on it. He also wears a pin of a lit bomb on his left lapel.
Personality[]
Byron is a seemingly competent businessman and CEO for his company, but his switch can be completely flipped by his daughter Becky, whom he dotes on extremely. He is willing to summon the entirety of his company's arsenal to save her from danger, though his impulsive actions often earn him a reprimanding from his servant, Martha Marriott, and his own wife.
History[]

Byron and Martha listen to a young Becky refusing to go to Eden
Not much is known about Byron's past. Still, he appears to have established himself as the patriarch of the Blackbell family and as the CEO of their family company, Blackbell Heavy Industries, in Ostania. At some point in his life, he took a wife, and six years before the beginning of Operation Strix, they had Becky, whom he quickly grew to adore. Martha Marriott, a long-term member of the Blackbell family's household staff, became Becky's steward and helped look after her. At a very young age, Becky developed a haughty and precocious attitude. When she learned she would be attending Eden Academy, Becky initially refused and stated she did not want to go to a school with "ill-bred kids," shocking Byron as he questioned where his daughter learned to say those words.[2]
Synopsis[]
Eden Beginnings Arc[]
Byron is first mentioned when Loid recognizes Becky at Eden Academy's orientation ceremony, realizing she is his daughter and recognizing his high position. It is also implied that he was present at Cecile Hall's class photo at the end of the orientation.[3]
Stella Star Arc[]
After Anya gets her first Stella Star, she and Becky discuss getting rewards from their parents, prompting the latter to think about the many rewards Byron has gifted her, including her pet dog Wiesel.[4]
Imperial Scholars Mixer Arc[]

Becky remembers her father's words
Sometime before the Imperial Scholars mixer, Becky rents the department store so she and Anya can go on a shopping trip together. Near the end of their outing, Anya buys them both sheep keychains as a souvenir of their trip together. Becky is initially hesitant to accept the gift as she remembers Byron stating that he only wants her to wear the finest things, Martha pushes her to accept Anya's gesture of friendship, saying that her father would tell her the same thing.[1]
Cruise Adventure Arc[]
After the midterm break, the students of Cecile Hall began bragging to each other about the trips the took during the break. Becky steals the spotlight as she talks about how she got her father to help her meet the Berlint in Love actress Rachel at a party.[5]
WISE Arc[]
When Becky visits the Forger home for a playdate with Anya, Loid takes the opportunity to get intel about Byron and his company through her. While talking with Becky, Loid asks about her activities with her father, though the lovesick girl mistakenly assumes he is trying to get closer to her.[6]
Red Circus Arc[]
When two of Eden Academy's buses get hijacked by the Red Circus, Cecile Hall and Wald Hall's bus are controlled by Billy Squire and two of his comrades. While Billy explains his group's intentions to use the young scions as hostages, he calls out the children of important parents, including Becky as Byron's daughter. As he tells them to pray that their parents will pressure the government to negotiate with his group, a teary-eyed Becky assures herself that Byron will never let her get hurt. Later, when Becky and Anya hatch a plan to reveal their situation to the public, Becky writes a note with her family's SOS code.[7]

Martha urges Byron to stop acting impulsively
Thanks to Becky's note, the news of the bus hijacking reaches Blackbell Industries, causing Byron to go into a frenzy. Fearing for his daughter's life, he immediately calls for every tank and fighter jet in their storage to be dispatched and rescue his daughter. Martha quickly stops him by karate chopping the back of his head and asking him if he is trying to get Becky killed, telling him not to start a war. When Byron starts sobbing as he wants to save his daughter, Martha says she understands his feelings but reminds him that sending military vehicles after the kidnappers would only provoke them. She then tells him they need to act more calmly and that she will go to the scene by herself.[8]

Byron reunites with Becky after the hijacking
When the bus gets stopped by the police, Byron joins Martha as she drives to the scene. Despite her warnings that it is unsafe for him to leave the car, Byron rushes out and asks the police where his daughter is. An officer holds him back and tells him civilians are not allowed beyond their position, prompting Byron to reveal his position while childishly throwing his arms. Later, after the police negotiate with the Red Circus to bring the hostages food and water, Byron decides to have his family chef cook them the finest of meals, but Martha refuses, pointing out the ridiculousness of his statement, then tells the officers to bring out the field rations she brought.[9] After the hostages are freed from the bus following Billy Squire's surrender and the arrest of the Red Circus members, Byron rushes to Becky and has a tearful reunion with her. Becky asks about her mother, to which Byron says he would never bring her somewhere as dangerous as this. He then suggests they return home to put his wife's mind at ease, so they leave alongside Martha.[10]
Term Break Arc[]

Byron meets Loid for the first time
During Eden's end-of-term break, Byron attends Berlint's annual Winter Festival with his family and Martha. There, they meet the Forger family, and Byron greets Loid Forger, saying he has heard a lot about him from Becky. He then brings up hearing rumors that Loid is seducing Becky, which Loid quickly explains is a misunderstanding.
When Damian challenges Becky and Anya to a game of ring toss to make them leave the festival, Becky retorts that he is making up arbitrary rules and is not the owner of the festival. Byron chimes in to agree but not before saying that Becky is the true star of the festival, earning him a scolding from Martha. As the children prepare to play the game, Byron watches in shock as Becky asks Yor for advice on winning instead of him, and he tries to point out that he is also there to help. Byron later calms down and smiles as he watches Becky play with her schoolmates. After Damian wins the game, he decides to let the girls stay at the festival. His butler, Jeeves, tells the boy that a statesman's eyes should always observe the common folk, and Byron parrots him to emphasize the common folk.
Later, when Becky and Anya decide to visit a clairvoyant hall and get readings, Byron attempts to join them, wanting to see his compatibility with his daughter. However, he gets held back by his wife, who asks Martha to look after Becky in their stead.[11] After the girls return from their readings, the school friend group continues to stick together for the remainder of the festival at Anya's request, and Loid takes the opportunity to gather more intel from Byron and the other important men in the group. At the end of the festival, Byron returns home with his family and Martha.[12]
Relationships[]
Becky Blackbell[]

Byron's many gifts for Becky
Byron greatly dotes on his daughter and often coddles her, frequently buying her expensive gifts such as a tiara with real gems, a pink tank, her own smaller house, and other such presents. He also taught her that, as a Blackbell, she should not wear anything less than the finest. While they do not appear to see each other often because of his work, Byron deeply cares for Becky and tries to spend time with her as much as he can. He can also be very defensive of her, as shown when he is willing to summon the entirety of his company's arsenal to save her from the hands of the Red Circus, and shows slightly veiled hostility toward Loid, whom Becky has a crush on.
Mrs. Blackbell[]
While not much has been shown between these two, Byron appears to care for his wife quite dearly, as he did not bring her to the Red Circus bus hijacking to keep her safe, saying he would "never bring her somewhere as dangerous as this." Later, when he was able to reunite with Becky, he suggested they go home and see her to put her mind at ease, knowing she was worried sick. Similar to Martha, Mrs. Blackbell is also aware of Byron's deep affection for their daughter and often keeps him in check.
Martha Marriott[]

Byron gets held back by Martha from acting irrationally
Martha is a long-term servant to Byron and his family. Years of servitude under the Blackbells have made Martha and Byron quite familiar with each other, as she once advised Becky not to decline Anya's gesture of friendship with her gift so she would not sully the Blackbell name, certain that the girl's father would say the same. While she may be his servant, Byron appears to be prone to acting immaturely, especially when it comes to Becky, so Martha is not afraid to act against him when he begins acting unreasonably, often needing to keep him grounded and remind him to act appropriately as not just the CEO of Blackbell Industries but as an adult. Sometimes, Byron's energy and military impulses encourage Martha to calm him physically in order to stop his reckless escapades.
