The Briar Family (ブライア 家, Buraia-Ke?) is one of the Оstanian families that suffered during the previous war between Ostania and Westalis.

The family consists of:
- Yuri Briar: The younger brother of the family and a member of the State Security Service.
- Yor Briar (currently Forger): The older sister of the family and a Garden assassin.
- Unnamed mother: The mother of the family who died during the war when Yor and Yuri were still young.
- Unknown father: The father of the family who also died during the war.
History[]

Not much is known about the family's personal history. The Briars lived in Eastern Nielberg, Ostania. The mother gave birth to Yor and, seven years later, Yuri. Although the family appeared to have a happy home, it was cut short when their parents died during the war under unknown circumstances, leaving the still-young children to care for themselves. Yor dutifully took on the role of Yuri's caretaker, cooking him food and tending to him when he got sick, regardless of how terrible she was at it.[1] While the siblings were happy to have each other, they were poor. Wanting to protect her little brother's innocence, Yor joined Garden, an underground assassin group, in order to financially provide for the family.[2] The job proved to pay a lot, as Yor was able to put Yuri in school and buy him the things he wanted.[3]
As the siblings grew older, they both moved to the capital city of Berlint, living in their own homes and finding work. Thanks to his smarts, Yuri was able to skip grades and went to college when he was 14 years old.[4] Afterward, he accepted an offer from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and later joined the country's intelligence agency, the State Security Service. Meanwhile, Yor became an office clerk at City Hall and continued her assassin work. During the first phase of Operation Strix, Yuri was expecting a promotion but wanted to hold off on it unless he knew Yor was doing okay on her own and proposed introducing her to someone. For the sake of his job, Yor decided to find a boyfriend and met Loid Forger, and the two agreed to be in a sham marriage together after discovering that they shared similar goals. Their marriage was backdated by a year, and Yor would forget to tell Yuri about getting married, resulting in Yuri later finding out and questioning her and Loid about it.

- The surname Briar comes from Little Briar Rose, which is an alternative title for the fairytale Sleeping Beauty. The surname also relates to the rose motif that both Yor and her mother share.
