— Biddy to Billy Squire[1]
|
Biddy Squire (ビディ・スクワイア, Bidi Sukuwaia?) was the daughter of Billy Squire and a member of the Red Circus.
Appearance[]
Biddy was a young girl with shoulder-length hair and messy bangs. She also had freckles across her nose and cheek, and her eyes were narrowed and drooped slightly, with visibly long lower eyelashes and short thin eyebrows above.
Personality[]
Thanks to Billy's raising of her, Biddy was a very kind-hearted person with noble goals to help those who needed it most, even if it would cost Biddy her life. She did get a little rough when people tried to stop her from going to claim her rights, like when she got mad at her dad for trying to stop her from going to a Red Circus student demonstration. Biddy was a selfless girl and willing to do anything so that she and others could live a happy and fearless life.
History[]
Biddy was born to Billy Squire and her mother in Ostania. While Biddy's mother appeared to be present in her childhood as shown in a family photo, at some point, she disappeared from the family for unknown reasons, leaving Billy to raise Biddy on his own. Billy would teach her good morals and to be a caring and helpful young woman. As Biddy grew older, she became an active member of the Red Circus, which was still a student movement at the time, and partook in their student demonstrations, though Billy disapproved of her involvement with the group, fearing that they were shady.
Before Biddy left home for another protest, Billy tried to stop her out of worry, reiterating his wariness of the Red Circus and fearing the government's dangerous strictness with protesting. Biddy declared that while she is not scared to die for what she knows is right, she is scared of living in a world where no one is allowed to criticize what is wrong, pointing out how people are suffering because of the government's negligence. Billy tries to tell her the real world is not that simple, but Biddy brushes him off. Billy states that he only wants to keep their family safe, making Biddy a little bit upset before she left.
Biddy was killed during that protest, and her corpse was later found in the aftermath and shown to Billy. As her father, Billy became marked by the SSS and later joined the Red Circus as they helped him flee Ostania.[2]
Synopsis[]
Red Circus Arc[]
Biddy is mentioned by Billy when Henry Henderson asks him if he has any children after seeing him watch the child hostages with a tender look. Billy tells Henry about Biddy and how she was murdered by the state. He explains how Biddy was part of the Red Circus and how the state turned violent against them. Resolving to see that the state reaps what they have sown, Billy refuses to take Henry's criticism for using child hostages.[3] Later, as Billy sees the tired children in the school bus, he recalls his final moments with Biddy before and after her death.[4]
Billy thinks of Biddy again when Anya Forger approaches him and unexpectedly starts mirroring her words, saying that while she is not afraid of them, she is of dying without being able to speak for the ones in need. Hearing this and remembering more of Biddy's words, Billy begins losing his resolve to go through with his plan. Billy's partner Vadim interjects and asks if he has forgotten his daughter, telling Billy that if he wants equality, he should let the upper-class understand his pain of losing a child.
Saying he could never forget Biddy, Billy flashes back to a past memory of when Biddy got scratched while feeding the neighborhood cats. Biddy explains how she was trying to equally distribute the food between the cats, and though she knows she is meddling in the animal's world, she could not bear to hear anyone cry. While Billy is proud of his daughter, he quickly realizes she has once again used the food from their pantry to feed the cats. Biddy giggles and reminds him that he is always teaching her to "Be a giver, not a taker. Help each other up, don't hold each other down." Biddy then says that she is proud to be the person she has become.
In the present, Billy realizes that he has never forgotten about Biddy, but pretended that he did to keep his anger and not to lose his reason to live. He admits to being aware that the Red Circus's methods are wrong, yet did nothing to stop them. However, after seeing Biddy in Anya, he refuses to let his daughter die a second time, as he still wants to be able to call himself Biddy's dad. As such, Billy decides to give up on his plan and surrenders to the authorities while taking full blame for the operation.[1]
Relationships[]
Billy Squire[]
Like any father, Billy loved his daughter dearly and always did his best to keep her safe. He raised her with the mindset of helping and supporting those who need it most, as he wanted his daughter to become a person with great values. Biddy was always following her father's steps, so she became a kind person who always tried to help others (even if she ended up harmed).
However, some time before her death, Biddy's relationship with Billy was strained due to her participation in student demonstrations. When he tried to dissuade her from engaging in dangerous activities, she only brushed him off and even went so far as to call her father "enemy."
When Billy learned Biddy died, he was devastated and decided to avenge his daughter's death. He set out to hijack two school buses to pressure the government to release all the Red Circus members they have in jail and put pressure on them. Billy later realizes that his methods were wrong and that he only faked all that anger as he was afraid of forgetting his daughter. But in truth, he realizes he will never forget Biddy, so he decides to surrender to the police and deal with the consequences because he still wants to be called her dad. Thanks to Anya, Billy remembers again the words he taught to his daughter, "Be a giver, not a taker. Help each other up, don't hold each other down," and how Biddy during her lifetime showed Billy gratitude for helping her be the person she became.
