Berlint is the capital city of Ostania. It is home to many of Ostania's elite, including major figures in politics, industry, and the military.
Geographically, the city is a crowded grid of neatly arranged buildings, with a historic streetscape mixed with newer buildings. Many of the structures have crude designs, which reflect the oppressive atmosphere of Ostanian life during this cold war.[1]
Coat of Arms[]
The coat of arms of Berlint
As seen in the anime, Berlint's official city hall documents include a coat of arms, which is the heraldic symbol used to represent the city.
On the upper portion of the symbol, "Ostania" is labeled above an eagle that is spreading its wings and appears to be carrying something. Under the eagle is the shield, which bears the letter "B" on it, presumably for Berlint. The shield is supported by two stags, and below them are five stars centered at the bottom of the symbol.[2]
History[]
Not much is known about Berlint's early history, but it is home to the prestigious Eden Academy, which has over 500 years of history.
Sigmund's memories of the war
During the first war of unification between Ostania and Westalis, Martha Marriott and Henry Henderson's past suggests that Berlint was mostly unaffected, though air raid drills were practiced.[3] As for the second East-West war, the effects that it had on Berlint have yet to be shown. Meanwhile, in Sigmund Authen's recollection of one of the wars, the district where the university he worked at was greatly affected, with the area being filled with orphaned children while others would be looking out for the next bomb in the sky or scrounging for anything of value on the ground.[4]
After the end of the second war and the National Unity Party losing power, Ostania's current administration appears to be seeking reconciliation with Westalis. However, many citizens do not share these views, leading to a situation where it is difficult to predict when their discontent will erupt.[5] The desire to break the thin veneer of peace between the two countries has resulted in several Ostanian groups attempting to fulfill it, including a group of isolationist students from Berlint University.
There are many schools to teach the youth in Ostania, like Fontaine Academy in Newre[6], but none are as famous and influential as Eden Academy, a highly prestigious private school.
For post-secondary schools, the only known ones are Berlint University[7] and Berlint University of Education[8], with the latter having a teaching program for students aspiring to become teachers.
Culture[]
Within Berlint are a variety of entertainment facilities where the government is highly restrictive, as if no citizens would complain if there was food and entertainment. Many are of a high cultural standard and can be enjoyed by both children and adults. There is even a popular Ostanian drama called Berlint in Love, which is set in Berlint. On the other hand, there is also a deceptively obvious fact that business tycoons and underground dwellers gather in Berlint to hold illegal gambling events where huge sums of money are at stake. One of these events is the Campbelldon, an underground tennis tournament hosted by Cavi Campbell and his illicit tennis club.

Berlint has several city events during the year. Two notable events are the Charity Bazaar for Disabled Veterans and the Winter Sheep Festival. The Charity Bazaar for Disabled Veterans, an annual charity to support veterans from the wars, appears to be a long-running event, according to Sigmund Authen, and is organized by the Lady Patriots Society and the Wounded Veterans Association. The Winter Sheep Festival is also an annual winter event that includes food, games, traveling carnivals, and more. The event is also organized with the help of the Lady Patriots Society.
Transportation[]
Streetcars, Berlint's main transportation system
Berlint has many public transportation systems to move around its streets. For those who do not own a car, streetcars are the primary mode of transportation.[9] Underground is the subway system, which commuters like Yor and Yuri take when going home from work.[10][11] When traveling long distances to other regions within Ostania, travelers have the option of taking the train.[12][13] Berlint is also home to Berlint Airport, which is used by many government officials and celebrities.
