Loid Forger[]

Loid Forger is Anya's adoptive father who took her in from the shady orphanage. Anya initially wishes to follow Loid out of curiosity and admiration for his secret identity as a spy. After Loid rescues her from her kidnappers, she becomes increasingly attached to Loid as a father figure and chooses to remain with him despite being given the offer to go to a better orphanage. Loid viewed her as a replaceable tool for his mission at first, though he later came to genuinely care for her and her well-being. Despite being disappointed with her school grades and bewildered by her behavior, Loid has been remarkably patient with her and makes a great effort in trying to understand her more.[1]

Anya deeply cares for her adoptive father, as she considers him one of her favorite things and looks up to him often, even using his motivation as a spy when asked what her goal is. She becomes greatly attached to the stuffed penguin he won for her as a gift during their aquarium trip[2], and when Bond rips it up, Anya is more upset due to the fact it was a gift from Loid and refuses to get a new one.[3] Even when Anya acknowledges her adopted father's array of talents, she becomes desperately concerned for his safety after receiving a vision of his death being caused by an explosion from Bond, with her and Yor appearing to be devasted from the result, and did all she could to prevent the catastrophic event.[4] Despite her mind-reading powers, Anya still feels insecure about whether Loid likes her or not, as his mind is too complicated for her to understand his feelings.[5]

While Anya is aware of Loid's identity as a spy, she keeps her telepathic abilities a secret out of fear of being questioned and abandoned by him. After her term finals, Loid asks her about any connections between Classical Language and her past, but Anya tells him that she does not remember. Despite hiding her power, Anya often uses it to sway Loid into doing things for her, aware of his internal struggle to act like a good father and finding that he is easy.

Yor Forger[]

Yor Forger is the adoptive mother of Anya, who addresses her as "Mama" immediately after she moves in. Anya manipulates Yor and Loid together upon discovering Yor's identity as an assassin and being interested in the concept of spies and assassins. When they do initially get along and even hold hands, Anya becomes shocked when Yor is reminded of her brother's accidental injury caused by her hugging him too hard, dashing away from Yor. Yor tries her best to be a better mother for Anya after the admissions interview despite knowing they are a fake family, by trying to improve her cooking. When Yor is discouraged by her failure, Anya comforts her and admires her strength, getting Yor to train her. Although Anya is fond of Yor, Anya is often blunt towards Yor's flaws, particularly her bad cooking, and often hurts her feelings visibly.

Despite being well aware of her adoptive mother's near-inhuman physical capabilities, Anya still shows great concern for her adoptive mother's safety. She became worried after hearing she got shot in the rear via mind-reading and stopped a remaining member of Red Circus from using an improvised bomb against her.[6] During their cruise trip, Anya decides to help Yor with her assassin work, and ultimately plays a large factor in Yor winning her final battle with the Swordsman.[7] Lacking many of her husband's emotional barriers and having experienced raising children through her younger brother, Yor is more often openly affectionate towards Anya than Loid is. Likewise, due to the strong maternal feelings Yor has for Anya, she is extremely protective of the girl, as she has no shame in protecting her with extreme violence against anyone who antagonizes her.

While Anya is aware of Yor's identity as an assassin, she keeps her telepathic abilities a secret out of fear of being abandoned and confusing her mother. Anya has raised Yor's suspicion about her being able to read minds once, but was quickly able to change the conversation.[8]

Bond Forger[]

Anya encounters Bond while at an adoption fair, where they make eye contact through a window, allowing Anya to discover his precognition abilities. Through teamwork, they are able to avert a future where Loid dies in a bombing, and Anya persuades her parents to adopt Bond into the family. They are quite close, as Bond's enhanced intelligence and Anya's telepathic abilities allow the two of them to communicate easily, and Anya often attempts to use Bond's ability to see the future, even asking him to show her the questions in her upcoming tests. At one point, they have an argument due to Bond's jealousy causing him to rip up her beloved stuffed penguin, though they eventually reconcile.[3]

Yuri Briar[]

Yuri and Anya after studying hard

Anya and Yuri collapse from studying

Anya first meets Yuri in person when Yor calls him over to tutor Anya for her midterm exams. Neither of them has a good impression of the other due to Yuri's dislike of Loid and his child, while Anya gets overwhelmed and creeped out by his overly obsessive thoughts about his sister, which also causes her heartburn. Using Yuri's love for Yor, Anya is able to persuade him to tutor her seriously, and he eventually shares his motivation for studying when he was younger. Although Yuri later stomps off in frustration when she fails to learn anything, his story allows Anya to reflect on the recent bombing incident and how she could have better helped Loid if she were more knowledgeable.[9]

Anya is aware of Yuri's secret job as a Secret Police officer after learning about it through Loid's thoughts. While she does not know what the Secret Police are, she assumes they are something exciting.[10]

Eden Academy[]

Henry Henderson[]

Henry motivates Anya

Henry Henderson is Anya's housemaster and homeroom teacher at Eden Academy, whom she met during the interview process. In somewhat of a running gag, Henderson has a low opinion of Anya's intelligence and will frequently look at her specifically when warning students about the consequences of poor performance. After Anya receives her second Tonitrus Bolt, Henderson teaches her the lesson of working hard and patiently to achieve her goal of becoming an Imperial Scholar.

Anya always manages to shock Henry from either impression or bewilderment. During the bus hijacking, when Anya boldly confronts and throws a tantrum at their terrorist captors, Henry is amazed by her "nerves of steel."

Becky Blackbell[]

The girls' matching keychains

Becky Blackbell is Anya's first and best friend at Eden Academy. Anya initially has a bad impression of Becky when she thinks of Anya as immature and attempts to take her under her wing, causing Anya to snub her. Becky also thought of her as pathetic when Anya did not stand up for herself under Damian's bullying but changed her mind when Anya returned Damian's insults with a smug smile, even being moved when Anya claimed she got mad at Damian as an excuse for punching him.

Her frank nature and intention to be Anya's friend have helped Anya's fear of people when she is isolated by her classmates, and she happily reciprocates. Becky often stands up for Anya whenever Damian antagonizes her during their time at Eden Academy, though she eventually enjoys watching the two banter after sensing a romance between the two. When the two go on their first trip together to the mall, Anya buys themselves matching sheep keychains as a memento of the trip and a token of their friendship.[11] Anya enjoys spending time with Becky so much that the mere thought of being in a separate classroom frightens her.[12]

Damian Desmond[]

Anya's Killer Punch

Anya punches Damian during their first day together

Damian Desmond is Anya's classmate and rival at Eden Academy. Anya first hears about him through Loid's thoughts as his target's son, and she quickly finds his arrogant attitude annoying upon initially hearing his thoughts. They then have a disastrous first meeting after she punches him in the face for bullying her. Since then, Anya and Damian have had a complicated relationship, as Anya tries to get closer to Damian for her mission of "world peace" for Loid's mission while being oblivious to his growing feelings for her. While they throw insults at each other regularly, there have been moments of Damian being kind to Anya, such as when he protected her from getting hit during the interclass dodgeball game. Anya has also helped Damian get out of trouble and even motivated him to meet with his father, but only for the sake of the Friendship Scheme.

After Anya saves Damian from receiving a Tonitrus Bolt, he promises to pay her back, saying it will be a "piece of cake," which Anya misconstrues as getting a cake that she impatiently waits for. During the bus hijacking incident, her impression of Damian is raised after he demands the bomb on her neck be attached to him instead. After a bomb is also attached to him, she repays his actions by comforting and assuring him. After the incident, Damian apologizes to Anya for his past behavior toward her and tries to be kinder to her, even referring to her as a friend. Despite that, they continue to competitively fight with each other. Damian later finds the opportunity to give Anya the cakes she had been anticipating, giving her expensive tea cakes. After getting her cakes, Anya tells Damian they can be friends. However, she is disturbed after seeing how he imagines her in his thoughts and quickly goes back on her word, and the two return to their arguing ways.

Anya tells Damian about her power

Anya confesses her telepathic abilities to Damian

Just before Eden Academy's end-of-class gala, in another attempt to grow closer to Damian, Anya point blank asks Damian to dance with her, but an extremely flustered Damian refuses while running away. During the gala, Anya turns down other boys' requests to dance with her, insisting she only wishes to dance with Damian. When Ewen and Emile hold a competition for the chance to be Damian's dance partner, Anya defeats her rivals in all the challenges. A blushing Damian accepts her victory and the two dance together for the first time. The dance gets off to a rocky start as they cannot find a common rhythm, with Anya at one point accidentally stepping on Damian's foot. However, after advice from Henry, the two begin to properly dance, during which they have a heart-to-heart conversation. Damian compliments Anya's family, and in an extraordinary twist, Anya confesses her mind-reading abilities to Damian. However, Damian does not believe her and calls her a dummy, causing them to fight, but it is shown that their friendship has taken a positive leap.

Ewen Egeburg[]

Common craving for space adventures

Being Damian's friend and lackey, Ewen tries to keep Anya away from him, as Ewen highly respects Damian and believes she might spread her "peasant germs" to Damian. Since Anya punched Damian on the first day of school, the two have been on bad terms. After the incident with the Red Circus, it is shown that the two appear or be in better circumstances, and in Short Mission 10, Ewen is excited to see that she also enjoys space adventure, and the two happily chat about space and rockets as they play.

Other[]

Franky Franklin[]

Anya comforts Franky

Anya comforts a freshly rejected Franky in pity

Nicknamed "Scruffy Head" by Anya to his displeasure, Franky is usually tasked with babysitting her whenever Loid and Yor are unavailable. Despite being often annoyed by this task, Franky easily gets along with Anya and often acts as her partner in crime and goes along with her schemes, especially if it is at Loid's expense. Anya is aware of his woes with women and looks at him with pity because of this. In one instance, Franky suddenly asks if Anya likes her parents, to which she replies that she loves them, and Franky responds with a concerned look.[13]

Fiona Frost[]

Episode 21-2

Anya stunned by Fiona's personality

Due to her telepathic abilities, Anya is aware of not only Fiona's spy identity but also her true personality and how she is actually madly in love with Loid. Though Anya is amused by the dissonance between Fiona's poker face and lovesick thoughts, Anya dislikes her for trying to replace Yor as her fake mother, as Fiona plans on using an extremely strict and painful method for her to become an Imperial Scholar if she was Anya's mother. When Fiona tried to coddle Anya, the girl angrily hissed at her after reading Fiona's thoughts and intentions.[14]

Martha Marriott[]

Anya sees Martha as a strong woman she admires a lot since Martha saved her from Vadim during the bus hijacking, and enjoys it when she takes her and Becky to different places to have fun.

Sigmund Authen[]

Anya gets treated by Sigmund

Sigmund Authen is the Forgers' neighbor and a grandfather-like figure to Anya. When Anya first meets the elderly man lost outside of his home, she is confused by his behavior and incoherent thoughts. As the Forgers try to help Sigmund get back home, Anya acts as his interpreter for Yor when he begins mumbling, though she often tends to misunderstand what he says. During their search, Sigmund starts seeing Anya as a granddaughter and dotes on her as such, and after he and his wife Barbara properly introduce themselves to the Forgers, Anya refers to him as "Grandpa Siggy."[15]

When Anya begins studying for her term finals with the goal of getting the top score in Classical Language, Sigmund offers his assistance, as he is not just a former university professor but also dabbled in the subject. Compared to studying with Loid and Yuri, Anya has a more enjoyable time studying with Sigmund, who helps her find joy in studying as he uses her favorite series to teach her. Sigmund later asks Anya what her ultimate goal is after her school achievements, and she answers world peace, which greatly satisfies him. Anya continues learning under Sigmund until the day of her exams and later gets a Stella Star for getting the second-highest score in Classical Language, earning praise from the elderly man.[16]
